Internet Dating.....Who Has Done it?!

My ex has a standard script that she uses (and I think it pretty crap, lol) and then adds a line at the end pertaining to something in the person's profile.
I'm quite selective with who I message, so usually they have a fair bit in their profile to work with, and I get to ask questions and really try to get a proper conversation going, not a line asking ' how r u?'
Yeah I only ever write 'freestyle' messages. The way I see it, if a guy sends me a message and has made it clear that he's read my profile properly, rather than just looking at my pics, I'm more likely to respond to him. So I try to mention things about their interests, ask them relevant questions etc. It doesn't have to be an essay, but a small effort is always nice

I never really thought online dating sites would get so popular, its strange how society changes and things become more acceptable. I always said i'd never set up a profile on one a site like that, but i'm becoming a bit curious as to how many people actually do use them!

Oh they send much worse than that...
On my PoF account I've set a 'minimum character amount' so that guys can't just send me a one liner. Unfortunately they just fill the rest of the message up with x's to get round it. Very annoying!
Oh right, ive never used online dating etc.. I just find it a bit curious how it all works to be honest. Can it not be a bit shallow or does that depend on the person?
Depends on the person really. PoF is free, so naturally most of the people on there are complete time wasters, but every now and then you come across a genuinely nice, normal person who's actually there to find a partner rather than a 'bit of fun'.
If you go on to something like match.com, it costs a bomb, so you're less likely to get the shallow/thick time wasters
No, you get another 6 months free, they'd never give money back!

I've had a few emails back and forth with with a nice looking girl, then another girl with a similar name pops up and I see both of them in each others photos. Turns out they are sisters and I'm now talking to both of them.
I've actually met the new sister member in town previous to knowing her on POF....

Signed up to PoF after reading it, my first profile didn't attract any attention and I didn't see anyone I'd like to message. Re-did my profile to add a little more banta, one lunchtime I'd noticed someone who looked nice and added her to my favorites for messaging later on.
An hour or two after that she messages me before I could message her, we meet up a few weeks later after talking loads and have been going out since December, holiday to Barcelona booked for 5weeks time and things are going really well!

Also had another few messages as well but never pursued them, I did put a picture of me and a female friend in my profile which I'd have thought a no no....but people didn't seem to mind at all!

I have been on PoF for a while now and hav had a few msg's and been on a few dates but so far not found anyone i can call right. But that all chnaged just recently as i started talking to a girl who actually had a bit of chat and some banter. We ended up meeting up last week for a meal and a drink and she was just how i expected and i think we got on fine.
She works crazy shifts being a nurse but looks like we are arranged to meetup on the 14th for a day/night out in Edinburgh
