Most cities in Japan were carpet bombed. It literally killed millions of people. Today they have a permanent US presence there, 85 bases apparently.

By "narrative" did you mean to say "truth" maybe?

Hamas has said they have hostages and will kill them if Israel doesn’t back down.

@Nitefly How is the comment weird? He was highlighting that as a percentage of population, the death toll of 1200 (what I last saw) of an Israeli population of 9.21m is 0.013% or a factor >12 times the USA death toll from 9/11 (2977/285,500,000 = 0.00105%). The equivalent of the USA losing >37000 people in a terror attack. Or the UK losing ~ 9,000 or Germany >10,800. And that is deaths not including the casualties.

Do you think any of those countries would stand idly by for that or would their citizens be baying for blood?

If there was a tunnel under your house I doubt you'd want to be hit by a weapons strike.

Its fairly clear at this point Israel are going in and huge civilian causalties are acceptable.

Unfortunately it will create more anti-Semitism and anti-muslim feelings - it's lose lose for everyone here. Including innocent loss of life - and raises further tensions for generations to come.

Unfortunately the concept of countries and ownership of land is just the premise of politicians and billionaires that have ulterior motives for more power and money, to hell with who gets hurt.

I have Palestinian friends that live and work in Israel - they have Israeli ID, passports, go to the mosque etc... They've been living there for 6+ years. They've been outcast by some of the "elders" of Palestine (well, I think they mean that they sold out), but what people forget is that over 20% of Israel is made up by Arabs as well. Despite having been in Israel for such a long time, him and his family have been interrogated by the IDF, and have had their passport confiscated etc... I understand why... but it's a bit **** for people that aren't associated with Hamas to be seen as such.
 
I think you can chuck out all logic and decency out of the window.

Hostages.... Dead or written off as human shields soon to be dead.

Civilians..... Potential suicide bombers every single one. The ones that haven't moved to "safety" are going to be Martyrs and forced human shields. Either way probably dead.

Going to be rubble in a few days/weeks and a lot more refugees coming to us to live.

UK will probably suffer from some terrorist bs. Expect a commuter train bombing or 2.

I'm so glad I live in the middle of nowhere.

The police in the UK need to start enforcing the law when it comes to being antisemitic or supporting Hamas.

If a white nationalist group had been chanting anti Jewish slogans the cops would have had the riots shields and batons out.

The selective enforcement of laws is eventually going to cause trouble.

As well as enforcing anti muslim behaviours as well - we all know there will be issues against both religious factions/people.

People are just stupid, they think everything is either/or if you don't support Israel then you absolutely have to support Palestine because it's the opposite and vice versa, if you don't like Palestine you have to give Israel 100% support, when you could just choose not to support either because neither are likeable options due how their respective military arms treat civilians

The Germans and the Japanese still had a proper functioning state that wasn't being blockaded for decades and we didn't occupy them which means they were able to recover.

Isn't he saying it's an issue having military installations within civilian areas? And they are trying to correct it? Presumeably in an overpopulated area with little free space.

That's similar to the Ukraine thread where a tweet (or whatever) suggested a Russian recruitment advert was saying they are marching on to Berlin - when, in fact, the lad is repeating what his grandfather said in WW2.

So easily to manipulate the news - particuarly on X. Should be banned imo.

Won’t happen if the ethnic makeup of most of the hamas supporters/anti semites aren’t white: “white cops suppress Muslims freedom of speech”. Then they’ll say it’s racism etc etc.

I understand it a difficult and complex situation but surely a ground invasion would be better or getting International special forces involved.

@bingham67 They (Israel) are not trying to kill the hostages. But there are too many in likely too many locations spread out in a war zone to effect any type of rescue. They can just hope that they are able to locate them once they move in and hope that Hamas keeps to their first statement that the are being kept safe as opposed to their second one of killing them on live feed for Israeli strikes. The military doctrine will be to eradicate Hamas to prevent any future attacks from that source...the long game.

Oh, and Israeli special forces including Sayeret Matkal (like SAS or Rangers) or Shayetet 13 (SBS or SEALS) are at the top of the game. Having a few extras hands on deck (international special forces) may help but coordinating different countries (SAS/SBS/SEALS/Rangers etc) would likely complicate things as each have different pay masters who may put in place different rules of engagement and of course the language barrier.
