Low 10s of thousand strong but only just over 10K actual (trained, etc.) fighters - probably can surge to mid 10s of thousands by forcing able bodied to fight for them.

It's a strange mindset to attack a country that can summon up 100's of thousands of trained soldiers. I still think they have screwed up massively and really did believe they would be getting help from other groups.

That is what I wonder but then on the other hand if they thought other groups were going to get stuck in proper I'd have thought they'd have gone all in.

Or they are baiting Israel but I can't see that really.
 
Well Martyrs have a glorious afterlife so a good amount probably see it as a great way to die.

Terrorists the world over have incomprehensible mindsets. It is a mistake to expect a group that planned to walk through a festival murdering innocents to behave in a way that makes sense to us.

Given comments from their spokesman, I think provoking Israel into an overreaction was intentional. The innocent people of Gaza are disposable collateral damage to these *********.
 
hamas pretty much equals isis these days.

they've seen how well ISIS polled with muslim countries and followed that line.

To bad europe is turning more to the right so sympathy is in short demand.

Seems to have resurfaced for obvious reasons but being anti-Israel or opposed to Israel's actions (in general, not in defending their nation which they have every right to do) does NOT make you antisemitic. Otherwise, are Jews who oppose or criticise Israel also...antisemitic?

Keir Starmer would say, "Yes." He's already expelled a number of Jews from Labour for antisemitism! They were the wrong kind of Jew, you see, and didn't unconditionally support Israel.

Just recently there was a cry for some other Labour MP to be dismissed, because she'd been seen associating with a pro-Palestinian group. Just speaking to them was enough to draw anger.

The sad fact is, for some, not being 100% in the pro-Israel camp makes you an antisemite. It's a useful device for suppressing any and all criticism of Israel.

The Guardian is reporting that both France and Spain will block any attempts to cut off/ restrict EU aid to the Palestinians.

While I get the humanitarian argument for continuation of aid, it does feel like a point has been reached where lessons have to be learned.

My personal.opinion is countries (and the EU) should be stopping aid, and making its resumption conditional.

I know people will suffer, but they are suffering now.

You can criticise Israel all you want just don't associate yourself with scum of the earth.

Maybe sufficient for its fighters but not the general civilian population of 2 million, most likely.

That kind of scale of food distribution requires proper logistics and the border to be open.
