It's difficult to see what Hamas' end game is supposed to be here, unless it's to go down in a blaze of martyred glory. I cannot see them benefiting from the current chaos, whether in the short or long term. So what was the ultimate goal?
I think they are hoping to provoke israel enough that they do something terrible and that one of the major muslim countries around them comes in and destroys israel.

but the countries around have neither the ability or care to do anything.

Especially with what essentially most of the middles easts gdp floating of the coast

Kill a load of Israelis, watch the inevitable Israeli retribution, fuel more terrorism.
The IDF have said Hamas leaders aren't even in Gaza, they are hiding away safely in places like Quatar. I remember years ago when Mossad used to send death squads around the world after terrorist leaders, wouldn't surprise me if we see that happening again over the next few years.

Massive build up of armour

The find out phase for Hamas is not even peaked yet

As pointed out in the video, some of the armour on the border includes breaching vehicles designed to break through concrete and other barriers and debris - these would not be there if the tanks were just to defend against Hamas attacks, these boys are getting ready to go in

The moment Israel enters Gaza, we will witness scenes that make the current violence look like a Sunday School picnic.

I think Israel will lose a lot of support when this happens.
Doubt it. The world will turn a blind eye for a while, and internet hand wringing won't bother them much.

You expect the IDF to kill innocent civilians in cold blood, strip the women down and spit on them/parade them around as trophies?

People might realise at that point that this conflict is, and has been for a very long time, a two way street of deplorable violence and Israel are far from an angelic innocent party in the whole situation.

I think they will push forward, demolish a large amount of ground and create a no mans land full of mines and deep pits.

Think the dmz between north and south korea.

The most disturbing thing, amongst many, is how many people have bought into the Hamas justification for doing this.

Post modernism only sees the world in terms of those with power and those without. Those with more power are automatically evil and those without are automatically good. That is the sum total of the analysis for them. That's why you see queer groups supporting them, despite the fact they would be executed in Palestine.

Nobody should be surprised by support from Muslims around the world, it's a mask off moment to remind everyone we have nothing in common with most of these people.

What a depressing thought but so accurate too. :(

Hamas is apparently upset about access to the mosque a bunch of Muslims built on the top of a Jewish holy site during one of their occupations.

The military wing of Hamas, Al-Qassam Brigades, described Saturday’s surprise assault on Israel as an operation “in defense of the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” invoking a dispute around a site that is sacred to both Muslims and Jews and that is among the most deeply contested in the holy land.

The mosque sits in a 35-acre site that is considered the holiest in Judaism and the third holiest in Islam. Muslims call the site — which also includes the Dome of the Rock shrine — Haram al-Sharif, or the Noble Sanctuary. According to Islamic scripture, the Prophet Muhammad traveled from Mecca to the mosque in one night to pray, and then ascended to heaven.

Jews call the site the Temple Mount, because it was the location of two ancient temples that were destroyed.

The mosque is managed by Jordan.
