It's funny how (fuel shortages)

I would 100% have an EV but we haven't got the ability to charge it at home and we can't afford to drop the £30k+ on one.

Pretty sure that is the position that most people are in which is why the EV revolution will take a while to get going.

This. I can afford but don't want to, like I don't want a 30k+ petrol runabout. While I understand car enthusiasts, used to be one, but that was a lifetime ago and a base electric iD3 or whatever is nothing to get enthused about

What! £40K sorry no way would I pay that. Peugeot cars are built in three countries not only France. 2008 GT PREMIUM 1.2L PURETECH 155 EAT8 from 31K if you now buy a peugeot it will cost you extra for paint, fuel engines cost more now so best to stick with you old car:)

So you paid £31k for your car?

So I would have to pay £31k for a 2008 which is too small for my needs, doesn't go far enough when we use the car for holidays and I couldn't charge it without going out of my way to park up at a third party charging point.

Any 4 of these points is enough for most people to discount them.

You've got a car that has massive issues for a lot of people and its cost more than the average person makes in this country pre-tax. Do you see the problem here.

Why has this thread turned into a - show how little you know about BEV's thread?

The topic is FUEL shortages, last time I checked electricity was in short supply. Perhaps try and get it back on topic a bit?

Did you mean wasn't?

Damn you just pipped my wonderment of was/wasn't

Well for one, a BEV owner claimed ICE drivers should be taxed more on CO² which is funny considering they already do pay more VED, CO² front print of BEVs is higher than an ICE vehicle until a certain distance depending on the renewable mix of a market's energy network and anyone claiming to be an environmental evangelist when you own a personal car is silly.

Secondly, the two are linked. Less ICE cars means less fossil fuel demand and the thread has moved on from fuel shortages to now talking about price, which considering one benefit of BEV is running costs, is very much relevant.

4 years back was the GTLine 2008 then it change it name to GT premium on the new range in 2021-22

Hands up, my bad, I knew that it was a top of the range 2008, I just assumed that the word Premium was in the name.
I’m far from a car connoisseur but it’ll be 5 years old in May, it’s always been reliable, and she loves it more than me I think.
It’s only got 10,900 miles on the clock, whereas I’ve really been around the block!

No my meaning was you can buy a fuel 2008 GT PREMIUM 1.2L PURETECH 155 EAT8 from 31K maybe for some a 2008 is not the small car if you compare to the new ones, there is no EV 3008 GT PREMIUM only an Hybrid there is talk about the EV, version it might come out 2023 from what I read with a 400mile range with a price tag from 41K the EV 2008 is only 214miles range

That's ok, my old GTLine 1.2L PURETECH EAT6 Auto, had only done 72K miles as long you keep it in good working order it will last you along time you still have until 2030 before they banned fuel cars off the road by than maybe more new cars will come out and the EVs will be cheaper! But if you don't have a driveway you still charge it when shopping that's what we do as well. You know how long the wife takes to go shopping by then the car will be fully charged:D

You can only Rapid charge a Peugeot EV car 7 times then it recommended to charge for 24h slow charge but the choice is yours:)

Not only that but also when the cost of replacing the battery or battery cells outweights the cost of the car.
The Peugeot gets a three year/60,000 mile warranty that you can pay to extend. The battery is covered for eight years/100,000 miles, and will be replaced or refurbished if it loses more than 30% of its as-new performance within that duration. e-2008 will top up at 100kW, which translates to 100 miles of range in around 20 minutes.

All of these things are inconveniences for people and you are asking them to buy something unaffordable for most of them to be more inconvenienced. Thats a really hard sell. We have a 3008 and a 308 and I love our little 308 from 2014. Runs like a champ, on the motorway does about 65MPG, no road tax and hasn't cost us any money for the 5+ years of ownership. We only paid £4,500 for it then.

I would happily replace that with a little electric run around but the costs just don't add up. When you can get a second hand electric car for under £10k that isn't awful with a borderline dead battery, thats when I think a lot of people will start to move across en-masse. Most people don't need a car with huge range but they do need one they can afford and isn't a huge downgrade on their current care for way more money.

Yep the prices are nuts. I bought the 3008SUV 1.6D automatic in 2017 with optional extras (ie LED lights) for less than that. Does long distance/large car loads, the beat up 1.2l Matiz does the short runs. Only reason I sold the 12+y/o Focus Mk2 was it was starting to rust (£900 private sale :D). This one was one of the first in the UK is definitely a French one. Costs £20/year in road tax. At the time I looked at Audi, BMW, Toyota, etc etc all ended up 40+K on the road.
I can get a return journey to the French inlaws on a tank of diesel at 130km/h. Gutless at that speed with a load, Peugeot took my point about needing 1 more gear and +30Nm/HP into the next generation.

It’s really not a hard sell for those who can charge at home. I spend less time at charging points than I did at petrol stations because I can leave some will a full tank every day.

The issue with used prices is that electric cars just aren’t depreciating at the same rate as their ICE equivalents due to high demand and low supply. Also those early cars were very expensive to buy in the first place. I’m sure once most cars are electric in 10 years, that will be different.

You’d be mad to spend £40k on an e2008 though, I didn’t even realise you could spec one up that high. The Model 3 is only £2k more and is a much more capable car.

Back to the topic at hand, I’ve not noticed and shortages around my way.

I live in Tunbridge wells and I reckon that about 10% of houses here have guaranteed parking, the rest have to park wherever they can. There are plenty of people who never go more than 5 miles in their car, there are plenty of people who don't need to fit more than a single human in their car, there are people who can afford to drop £40k on an electric car without thinking about it. The venn diagram for this though is quite small.

We don't have private parking, we don't want to spend £40k on a car and to get an EV the size we want would be really expensive. I would love one but the maths just doesn't add up vs and ICE car currently.
