iTunes Match is live...

BTW I can confirm that for me anyway I can stream music perfectly fine to my iPhone 4S WITHOUT it downloading to the phone, via both WiFi and 3G. That alone is worth the price of admission, not to mention all my old 192kbps MP3s that are now happily 256kbps :D

So why are mine all downloading? And how do I remove them?

The way I did it before was to turn off match on the phone, then resync.

But then it takes a while to activate match again on the phone, and it has to download all the album covers etc too.

Any other way?

To play a track, I just tap the track name, not the little download Cloud icon thing on the right.

That's not a problem, that's how it works on an iOS device. Once the track is downloaded, swipe right and a delete button should pop up to delete individual tracks. Dunno if there's a better way to delete all than deactivating and reactivating iTunes Match in settings though.

Yeh knew that. Just didn't think to do it in the Music player.

Still going to be a pain in the ass to delete every song I've played via Match though!

So is there no way to sync music to my phone by wifi or USB, then have match enabled as well, to download/stream any of my music that I haven't synced?

Because right now I have almost no music on my phone - let's say I get in the car, go for a drive, want to listen to x album... can't have it, can I? I don't understand why I can't sync to start with. I don't want to download 20+ gigs of music to my phone from the net when it's on my machine, and if everything's gone then downloading/streaming everything isn't practical. Am I stuck between the two?

If you disable iTunes Match on the phone, then sync it, then re-enable iTunes Match on it, does it (despite the warning) not keep the music already on the phone there? Might be worth a shot, just make sure the songs you sync are also 'in the cloud' first else they'll be removed when you re-enable Match.

EDIT:

I can confirm that the above does work, the music synced prior to re-activating iTunes Match stayed on the device as downloaded (and could be deleted/redownloaded as if it had been downloaded to the device directly)

Ah, I'll give that a go then. Thanks :)

i've been playing around with this and I now have no idea what its done to my music or now how music is now synced between mac and iphone. Is there anyway to turn this off?

My list of issues so far:

1. Uploading is slow and seems to hang a lot, especially on large single file albums with no way to skip that file beyond removing from itunes.
2. Enabling itunes match on my iphone has nuked all the music on there are replaced it with either greyed out songs (awaiting upload i presume) or songs with a download button next to it - but no obvious 'download all' button that I can see
3. Enabling it on my iphone means I can see 1522 songs in music on itunes, but only 1513 on my iphone. I can't work out what the 9 songs are that have gone missing between MBP and iphone.
4. enabling it seems to have also resulted in 89 songs being 'stuck' on my iphone in that they don't show in the music app on my iphone so I can't delete them via that, but I also can't remove them via itunes even if I turn off itunes match and manually manage music. They seem to be some kind of stream as the size column all shows 'stream' in it.

At the moment I am not happy with it.

If you play them in album view it may look like they are streaming but if you check the specific track in song view it will be downloading.

Ok bought this yesterday. It uploaded all my songs to the cloud over night only matching 3 of them :\.

So I went back and re tagged every single one of my songs (took me 6 hours) and now its matched every single one of them :).
God I hate itunes lol

Does iTunes match really match tracks based on the tags? I would have thought they'd have to analyse the audio like Shazam etc to match it up? Or I'm guessing it's a combination of both?
