“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn told the New York Post in a statement on Friday.

So Disney are you craven or incompetent?

If you didn't spot the tweets before hiring someone for a role as prominent as Gunn's you are incompetent. (are we really to believe they didn't look through his publically accessible social media footprint before hiring him especially when there was already media coverage about other stuff he had posted online?)

If you knew about the tweets and fired him six years later because some weirdo belatedly kicked up a twitter storm you are craven.

Which is it?

Well have you read them, they are dodgy I just can't see how you would joke like that. Maybe some do. Anyway as someone said, Disney being very children orientated I guess they thought nip it in the bud asap to prevent potential firestorm and loss of income.

To answer my own question I'm going to go for craven.

Sorry I just don't buy the 'he did non family friendly stuff in the past which has just come to light so we need to fire him' line.

His previous directing/screenplay career includes adult films about zombies, dark comedies with rape scenes, and a comedy series about pornography featuring actual porn stars.

More recently he had a hand in a film which featured a character with testicle on his chin

inconsistent with our studio’s values?

What a load of old **** Disney you knew exactly who you were hiring and have just panicked.

I can't believe 50% of Trump voters believed this Cernovich moron's Pizzagate story about Hillary. Crazy times.

Sometimes I'm tempted to sign up to Twitter. Then it ruins another person's career and I think "nah"...

In cases like this, take for instance Kevin Spacey/Harvey Weinstein, what normal people see as a quick hasty firing CAN, but not will, turn into something a lot bigger.

I.E. They know something else that is hidden that they don't want to come out, which will if people keep digging, so Fire the guy ASAP as to draw a line under it and hope that finishes it.

And as with Holywood, there are some seriously weird perverted guys, and gals, out their!

Just read some of his tweets. I realize some people like to be edgy and provocative, as he's making himself to have been, but some of what he wrote is downright creepy. He's also got sort of obsession with young boys, and if I found out that someone I know made 'jokes' like that, well... I'd be worried.

He has only been fired because of media interest and backlash - they (Disney) used him knowing he'd make them tons of money through GoG and there's now a risk that he won't be good for business so they've let him go.

you see businesses do this all the time. he probably is either causing issues or not what they want but they want him gone. then use anything to get him gone.

Considering the comments made recently about Bill and the rather obviousness that they're pedophiles in DC, the theory was dumb, but the point of it wasn't. Authority and child abuse seem to go hand in hand for some strange and magical reason.

His tweets are the kind of jokes that would get you punched in one of those places, or at best just ignored and ostracised as a weirdo. There is a big difference between saying your workmate touches boys, and your workmate himself saying he touches boys.

I like to think I'm quite open-minded about banter but this was just off and was horrible to read. However, I don't think he should have been fired over it, especially given how well he responded to it. If Disney had simply condemned it it would've blown over soon enough.

What comments? I can't be bothered to go and Google for your point. What do you mean the "theory was dumb". Firstly, it's not a "theory" -- it's a lie. As soon as you start giving the alt-right morons an inch by calling their slanderous fabrications "theories", they've essentially won the argument.

True. But how does that warrant making up lies about someone to try and get them sent to jail, nevermind lose an election? Do you try to win arguments by making up lies... ?

Nope it's hilariously tame compared to the shop floor talk.

You'd have to be pretty weird to not know your mate was joking.

Christ half our jokes are about the lads with kids touching up thier own kids

Bourdain's last interview blasted Bill Clinton alongside Weinstein, i'm inclined to believe the man. Unfortunately sometimes you need to lie to blow open any sort of discussion, especially when it concerns authority being disgusting.

Otherwise you end up with the likes of Cyril Smith.

What nonsense, Donald. You blow open any sort of discussion by providing evidence and incontestable truths. Not slandering people in the hope that something sticks. Jeez, and we wonder why the world is in such a state

As for Bourdain personally, I really rate the guy but I wouldn't exactly trust everything that comes out of his mouth;
Wiki said:
A former user of cocaine, heroin, and LSD, he wrote in Kitchen Confidential of his experience in a trendy SoHo restaurant in 1981: "We were high all the time, sneaking off to the walk-in refrigerator at every opportunity to 'conceptualize.' Hardly a decision was made without drugs. Cannabis, methaqualone, cocaine, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms soaked in honey and used to sweeten tea, secobarbital, tuinal, amphetamine, codeine and, increasingly, heroin, which we'd send a Spanish-speaking busboy over to Alphabet City to get."

Evidence in the world of politics and Hollywood?

You're joking right? The only reason abuse gets challenged is if people TALK about it, evidence is very difficult to conjure up, if by evidence you mean pieces of paper, video or other such recording... because that just doesn't happen.

*What i mean by lie was the rather stupid idea of "Pizzagate", I supremely doubt a well respected man like Bourdain was just opening his mouth like that for little reason.

Bourdain might be well respected in his field, and trust me I'm a fan. But it doesn't stop him being a heavy drug user, and someone with mental problems. He's hardly the shining example of truth is he?

You're going into dangerous territory here. Confusing reports of alleged abuse by a victim is absolutely not the same as some wild fiction as concocted by some alt-right morons. You need to understand the difference.

lol twitter.

Don't even care what he said, you should never be fired for making jokes, I guess showbiz people are held to some different standard though for some reason, that's why I like people like Ricky Gervais, makes gags and doesnt care if someone is offended.
