He won't, interesting that he says it wouldn't be to Spain though.

Yeah its a touch concerning though , often these things are said by players who are maneuvering during imminent contract negotiations in order to get improved contracts, but Reina is quite some distance away from contract renewals, interesting to see what his beef is.

It's interesting that he was willing to sign a 6 year contract in the summer while h&g were still there and yet raises an issue now.

Pepe Reina said:
I will stay at Liverpool at least until the end of the season
That's the end of the 2016 season because you've just signed a 6 year contract.

Liverpool have apparently opened preliminary contract talks with Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres.
According to today's Independent NESV are concerned about the release clause in both players' contracts and so want to negotiate new deals for the pair with such a clause removed.

There is no indication either player wants to leave and NESV are hopeful of doing a deal as the release clauses were only put into Reina and Torres's contracts as both players were sick of the lies George Gillette and Tom Hicks kept coming out with. With those liars gone, Liverpool's future looks much brighter and remaining at Anfield is a lot more appealing to players.

Odd to have both stories running on the same day about new contracts and Reina saying what he's said.

I highly doubt he will go anywhere over the next couple of years. He's always expressed how much he loves the club and fans and the only thing he's come out with being not entirely happy about is the new GK coaching methods. Which he should just turn around and tell them where to go. Trying to change his style of play is ridiculous.

Oddly enough though, during the Chelsea game he hardly ever released the ball early upfield like he normally does. Might have been down to not wanting to giving the ball away so easily or something that's been brought up against his style.

Our owners have already said there are no 'release clauses' in Torres or Reina's contracts.

The newspaper it is in is rather irrelevant, if you notice the article they directly quote him, would have been different if it had been a "source close to" the player, but if they are willing to directly quote someone, be it a politician, a celebrity or a sportsman, you can be pretty certain that the person actually said the quote. To simply make something up and then depict it as a direct quote would open them to being sued. Sometimes its better to dispose of the blind hatred of a particular medium and analyse whats being said rather than dismissing it because of the messenger

For me its not a question of if he said it, the fact that its a direct quote makes me think it was definitely said, its merely a question of why he said it, given that someone mentioned that there are contract negotiations going on, that would explain why he said it. Players often say similar things during contract negotiations to give them a stronger standing in the negotiations.

Dailymail and Daily Star have also recently been giving 'direct quotes' all through the summer which were fabrications. I see no reason why this should be any different.

Well you wouldnt because you already appear to have hatred of the medium. Like I say, the direct quote makes me think he said it, I simply think he said it to strengthen his position in the negotiations though rather than him actually wanting to leave.

Sounds to me like its more just a little out-of-context than anything. He said he would stay until the end of the season at least, and ruled out a move back to Spain, so therefore the press have put 2 and 2 together, made 5, and decided he's going to Arsenal.

He also said he's happy at Liverpool, but that didn't stop the guesswork.

Would be nice to see him say he would stay until 2015 at least rather than just to summer at least though
