January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Shay Given wants to move across the city in Jan - cant see it happening to be honest even if he would be a reasonable successor to VDS (cant decide if he is a brilliant goalie who's a little unlucky sometimes, or a reasonably good one who should be better than he is)

Fairly sure Given will be leaving in January and he will probably end up somewhere else in England, wouldn't be that surprised if he ended up at Man Utd in January

Anyone who thinks Given will end up at Utd is deluded IMO.

A. City wouldn't want to sell him to them.
B. Utd wouldn't buy a City cast off.

Pepe Reina denies he wants to leave Liverpool

Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina has denied reports he has told manager Roy Hodgson he wants to leave the club. Reina, 28, signed a six-year deal with the Reds in April and told the club's website:

"It is completely untrue. I have not told the manager that I wish to leave in January, or at any other time. It is important our fans know this."
"I have a long-term contract at Liverpool and I am fully committed to the club."

Reina was signed by ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez in a £6m move from Villarreal in July 2005 and has become a key member of the side having racked up more than 250 appearances for the Merseysiders.

The Spain international has consistently been linked with a move since the summer, despite the club enjoying a new-found stability since the takeover by New England Sports Ventures [NESV].

Arsenal, Manchester United and Inter Milan, now managed by Benitez, have been linked with Reina but he has moved to end any speculation over his future as the Reds try to climb the Premier League table following a poor start.

"Our new owner [John W Henry] met me and some of the other players last week and I was very happy with what he told me," added Reina.

"The entire squad and staff are working very hard to get us back competing at the top of the table. We will not be distracted by inaccurate media speculation."

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Holland midfielder Ibrahim Afellay from PSV Eindhoven in January.

Ibrahim Afellay is the latest creative midfielder to join Barcelona's ranks
The deal was announced on both clubs' websites on Monday evening though a contract is still to be agreed between the Spanish champions and the player, but if all goes to plan then the Holland international will move to the Nou Camp when the January transfer window opens on New Year's Day.

A statement on Barcelona's official website read: "PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona have reached an agreement on a deal to bring Ibrahim Afellay to Barca, subject to successfully settling personal terms between the player and the Catalan club over the coming weeks.

"Until the deal is finally settled, Ibrahim Afellay wishes to concentrate on the upcoming important games for PSV."

The 24-year-old Afellay's contract with PSV was due to expire at the end of the season and it was announced last month that he would not be penning a new deal with the Dutch outfit, with whom he has spent his whole career so far.

Afellay played at the World Cup for his country but only made two substitute appearances as the Dutch reached the final but lost to the countrymen of the club where he will ply his trade from the beginning of 2011.

thought he could have been decent for Arsenal.

So we have been linked with Edin Dzeko again...
From the games i have seen and the various reports he is a top player. Only problem is apart from Balo Mancini refuses to play 2 upfront although he may only be playing 1 as he doesnt like anyone else :p and if he signed Dzeko it would be HIS signing and so would probably play every game.

would be a decent signing for City but would force a massive change of shape.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson flew to France on Sunday to watch Rennes's £15m-rated midfielder Yann M'Vila as the Anfield club consider making a bid to sign the 20-year-old.

Rumours surfacing all over the place that are linking United to Jordan Henderson, Steve Bruce also said that SAF has said 'keep me informed', and then jokingly said that the last (and only) player he said that with was Valencia, and he bought him.

Steve Bruce has also come out and said that he's going to talk to SAF and see if he can get Welbeck permanently.

Make of it what you will.

As long as we don't buy another holding bloody midfielder :D

As much as I hate the thought, and generally never believe rumours, I'm worried Tevez won't be around for a huge amount longer. I would love to see him take us into the Champions League, stick with us through it, and really hope he does so. But if next summer he's off, we cannot under any circumstances rely on Balotelli, no matter how gifted he may be. Dzeko seems like a great addition to solidify the strike force. May be now or never.

Then we'll just nab Fabregas whilst Barca are all tied up with Afellay and jobs a good un :D

Plus, call me an optimist, but I wouldn't be surprised if we start playing far less defensive football as the season progresses. The back 4 is about as solid as can be, sit De Jong in front and that's something few will want to mess with. If the confidence is there in the back (which is ever growing) we'll be venturing more forward methinks :) No point in us going all out attack worried every time we loose the ball they'll be running back against the defensive equivalents of chocolate fire guards. I'm still confident there's a plan extending beyond the groans of hindsight FM managers. Just hope Mancini lasts long enough to see it through! Heck, maybe we buy an outstanding creative midfielder, pair him up with Silva and Tevez/Balotelli and we're flinging it forward like Arsenal!

*Second disclaimer for optimism and potentially massive delusions. :p

Trust Hodgson to alienate a player and look to push him out of the club

Given he favours Carragher over Kelly and he's looking for another right back it's safe to assume Kelly can go and jump as well. If he has his way we'll have no players from the Benitez era left once the January window has closed.
