January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Been linked with Arsenal for about 5 years. Tidy CM/DM who tackles pretty tough and has better distribution than Lucas/Poulson etc. Would be a great buy for you

Sounds decent, kind of a jack of all trades then? Not as tough a tackler as Mascherano and not as good a passer as Alonso, but a sort of hybrid?

£7m sounds reasonable then. Lets face it, anything is better than Poulsen :D

I guess if we are going for him though it ruins my hopes that we would try for Steven Defour :(

I hope United get either Defour or Hamsik, been linked with both for years. I think the Defour link is a lot more likely after Fergie sending him a get well soon message last year.

When did I ever say that?

Let's try taking this step-by-step, because you're clearly struggling with understanding the idea of there being more than one poster expressing more than one opinion on here:

in all honesty i read it as though u were trying to back up the statements:

I was under the impression VdV was offered to Tottenham rather than the other way round and that RM wouldn't have sold to a (perceived) european competitor?

I thought this too.

Lets not stop Nickg United bashing though.

i fell for the propaganda that it was a last minute deal on the back of a Munich deal collapsing, as was the common line at the time. i thought u were trying to back their point up, instead of shoot down my munich rambling. crossed wires i think. apologies, i took the line of argument as though you had implied their statement was correct, instead of a side issue.

If the 18mill munich thing isnt true, and that we could therefore have signed him at any point after the world cup, just didnt, and then spurs bid for him at the last minute and buy him, actually makes it even worse that we missed out on him tbh.

All this Bale hype is getting ridiculous now. £50m!?

Yes he is playing extremely well in a rich vein of form, but that kind of figure is outrageous.

he is. hes a creative player with running and action in him. would be a great player to sign...

Indeed, never stops running and has great technique and vision. Sometimes I think he hangs on to the ball a second too much, but then again he does play in Italy so that's pretty much custom

It's the number Spurs would probably do business at, they have no reason to sell.

lol, wait till Harry gives him a new contract, and a couple other players, then on the back of the CL performances signs two more players at 80-100k a week, then see how much Spurs lose end of next season ;) ( to be fair, you'd have to see how much extra champs league cash actually effects them, but if you get 2-3 players including VDV their wages will eat the entire CL income).

Bales had 3 great games this year to be honest, out of 17-18 games, I wouldn't call that a great vein of form, I'd call that Sporadic. When he's on it against a dodge right back, he's been brilliant, when he's not or against a half decent right back, he's been pretty quiet to be honest. Ronaldo has out of 23 appearances been outstanding for 15 and very very good in 7, and only average in 1 maybe. Thats a great player in a rich vein of form.. Bale is showing promise and no consistancy.

Remember last year for all the great games he had, he only got 3 goals and 5 assists, if he was THAT good consistantly, he'd score and assist more often.

He's 21, at the same age (well 4 seasons ago, around the same age) Ronaldo put in a season with 17 goals and 13 assists and the next season put in his 42 goal season. Bale is good, sorry, he's not even in the same ballpark as Ronaldo or Messi yet.

It is utterly ridiculous. He's a great player but he lacks consistency and may well get exposed for being one dimensional - we'll have to wait and see.

Spurs don't pay more than £65k a week, and VDV is only on something like £45k.

He only started playing in January when Assou-Ekotto went off to the ACoN and spent a proportion of those games at fullback.

Never said he was as good as Ronaldo or Messi yet, I'm saying it's going ot take a massive amount of money for 'Arry to even consider a bid.

Last year he may of only started play in Jan, but he played over 1700 minutes, he only played 35% less than Malouda, 3 goals, 5 assists, x 1.35 doesn't equal Malouda's 12 goals and 9 assists, it doesn't come even remotely close.

Most top players don't play 3000minutes, infact wingers/strikers playing 30 full games a season is fairly average, which is 2700 minutes.

The problem is Malouda wasn't even fastastic last year, scoring almost all his goals in games Chelsea utterly utterly dominated where his goals made no difference. 12 goals and 9 assists is decent, but by no means world class for a winger. Pires would routinely score 15 and above with a bunch of assists and he very rarely played the whole season.

It really wouldn't take all that much to prise Bale away, and come the end of the season(or Jan) if real offers come in they won't be the BS 50million ones we've seen.

As for saying if I say so, Ronaldo was significantly better and impacted the entire season, theres really no opinion about it, he did, 3 goals isn't even remotely close to 17. PS that season at 21 he got 26 goals, and 20 assists in all competitions, of which only 3 of the goals were for Portugal, everything else was for Utd, at 21. Again Bale did not come remotely close to that Bale played the best part of 20 games in the league alone, more in the cups I don't know. Ronaldo started 58 games that year, again multiply Bales stats by 3 and you still don't come remotely close to true world class effectiveness.

Consistancy is the MAJOR difference between world class and flavour of the month players. This season, in 18 starts, he's got assists in a single game, and got goals in 3 games I believe, but the majority of his goals and ALL his assists, came against ONE player Consistancy and world class status, or even world class potential would include the ability to shine against more than one player, but thats just me.

Don't we already know that Bent was on more than 65k a week, and VDV, 45k a week, you're having a laugh aren't you. I'm sure he agreed to come to Spurs and get paid substanstially less than many of the other players there.

"Four years at Spurs, for €11 million, I can hardly believe it myself," Van der Vaart told De Telegraaf.

It works out at £44k a week in fact.

I did think it was low, but that was the number reported. Though thinking about it it assumes he meant wages, is £8.5m €11m?
