January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

He's just being realistic. there's still a chance you lot might get relegated. ;)

Plus, more seriously, it could well be a lie if he committed to longer. Players don't stay at clubs for the length of time specified by the bit of paper with their name on it any more, we all know that.

My immediate thought after reading that article was why would Reina leave Liverpool and go to Arsenal if he wants to win trophies? If he wants to win anything in England his options are Chelsea and United and Chelsea don't need him.

I dont believe it for a few reasons as i said earlier.
1: Star/Dailymail to name two have already been caught once this year making up fake quotes (Barca players about cesc being the most 'high profile' fake)
2: Most these stories doing the rounds quote 'get out clauses' and 'buy-out' clauses, when our new owner has already publicly said its simply not true.
3: These papers are so OTT-Anti LFC its just crazy.

Someone from RAWK sums up my feelings pretty well:
heavens above.

two weeks of positivity around the liverpool team generated around a winning streak...

major tabloid editor scratches head... well well well, we as the british press cannot simply sit back and allow these scouse upstarts to be happy and enjoy the taste of victory. we must act! we must burst this red balloon before it gets out of hand! what say you to a few rehashed stories about unhappy star players agitating to leave come january/may?...

hhhmmmmmm.

Every time LFC has a bit of positivity going about anything, even charity work, these papers come up with something to try and put us down again.
Dailyfail even tried to suggest reports back in 07 about Rafa and Hyypia donating a chunk of cash to finish building some accommodation for the parents of sick children at the local Hospital were false.
Disgrace of a paper.

True...would be damned nice if they did though !

For me its not a question of if he said it, the fact that its a direct quote makes me think it was definitely said, its merely a question of why he said it, given that someone mentioned that there are contract negotiations going on, that would explain why he said it. Players often say similar things during contract negotiations to give them a stronger standing in the negotiations.
It makes no mention of when he said it though or in what context. I'd put my house on it not being this week or even this month. And I'm fairly sure it would have been whilst the H&G were in charge.

Shouldnt be too hard to work out, he says its been 7 months since he signed the new contract, so we just have to look at when he signed the new contract, move forward 7 months and then we know when he said it.

EDIT : He signed the new contract at the start of April, so 7 months on top of April is the start of November, so would appear that he said it this week.

Whats so wrong with him wanting to be with a team thats say in the champs league, and whats so unbelievable about him saying as much? I'm not sure why Stretch is convinced it had to be an old quote, nor why Liverpool fans seem so hell bent on any player unhappyness or team underperforming has to be H&G's fault and that with a new owner a player being unhappy seems impossible.

I can't see the hoohaa, despite where Liverpool are now, I'd be very surprised if they made it into the champs league, and not altogether shocked if they dropped out of Europa league places, they have a weaker team this year than last, but a much closer league aswell which has as much chance of working in their favour than against them.

Reina's a top drawer keeper and if he feels he should be playing in the Champs league every year, theres plenty of clubs he could join to do that which aren't clubs in Spain.

I can't see him leaving if LIverpool finish in the top 6, but if they finish 8-10th I can see it happening, not sure what would be all that surprising about it.

Even if these quotes are true, they've been blown out of proportion. There's been stories about how he's going to leave in January which these quotes rubbish and it's pretty obvious that he'll want to see the direct the new owners are taking the club in the longer term.

I'm more than confident that Reina will be with us for years to come :)

Player scores good goal in World Cup - Player automatically becomes "superstar"

Dont know about that, I've seen Keisuke Honda play quite a few times and he's scored a lot more than 1 good goal, I think it is safe to say that he is a "japanese superstar" after all there arent too many other japanese players better than him

Have a selection :)
