January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Johnson isn't that good anyway? He's been shocking so far this season.

Could be a kick up the arse ? Perform or I will bring someone else in, or could be Woy is after, well a better defender.

Don't see how you can complain too much about this when Rafa did something similar with a far superior player.

He was fantastic last season when he was allowed to play his natural game. This season he's been badly mismanaged.

Because one player doesn't come close to the amount of players Hodgson has ****** off since he's joined. We could lose half our first team in January because of him!

I don't think he was "fantastic" but I probably didn't see as much of him as you. Why not shift him in to midfield and get a right back that can defend.

I'm sure Rafa annoyed players as well? If Woy thinks he needs to move players on then so be it, he's in charge of the team.

I thought Rafa getting rid of Alonso was suicide and it turned out to be true, but that's okay because it was Rafa and we liked him?

I don't get all the hate Woy is getting, he's had what 12/13 league games with a squad that has seemed to go backwards in the past few seasons.

Who said it was okay? It was his worst decision as Liverpool manager

His tactics are archaic, his mentality has loser written all over it and he's an egotistical maniac. I can't think of one redeeming quality he has.

He's the Manager they didn't want so everything that is wrong in the world is Woy's fault, and Rafa is a saint that is trying all on his own to free the world of it's problems.

Did you not know???

Of course it is. There's no defending Roy so the only way they can have a dig is to deflect the criticism.

Most Liverpool fans (myself included) recognised that Rafa wasn't perfect and had the club been in a position to name a suitable successor then Benitez's position should have been questioned.

I do think there is a section of Liverpool fans (not on here though) that need to stop harping back to Benitez's days. He's gone and won't be coming back so we need to move on.

If Hodgson's comments on Johnson were taken in isolation then I'd not have much to complain about. Regardless of the fact that the way we play under Roy not suiting his game, his performances this season haven't been good enough. However, like with Insua and Agger, it's clear that forward thinking defenders have no place in Roy Hodgson's plans.

For me its simply the way that Roy is using that squad which is causing the discord towards him. There are better ways , imo, to utilize the players he has than what he is doing. He could play Kelly at right back more for one, he could drop Poulsen altogether for two, he could give Pacheco more opportunities for three, he could cancel the loan of Insua (contract permitting) and get him back instead of Konchesky for four... and so on and so on.

Hmmmm...

I think a few years ago I'd be very pleased with that, but he's 37.. only got a year, maybe 2 left at the top. Not sure about this one.

Does seem like a slightly odd signing. He did very well for Villareal though when he was there.

He's been bought in to provide cover for this season. When you consider Dennis Bergkamp was a similar player and still doing the business at 39 and that he's only going to cost (Admittedly high) wages i don't think it's a bad signing, even if as a dressing room talisman.

You do have to question i suppose that with Bannan, Albrighton, Hogg and some of the other youngsters doing so well is he needed?

Either way its no risk for Villa financially.

Villa's bench has been mega ropey recently, he's a good option and would make the bench ahead of some players that are currently there

Plus, it's Bobby, who says no to Bobby :s?

More rumours of De Gae to Man Utd (for £15m if there is any truth in said rumour)

The requirement for a new gk has been there for at least 12 months maybe more, PIG is ok but never going to be No1 (rumour pesists that he might leave this summer too)

lol, I can't believe any Liverpool fan can call Johnson fantastic, its laughable, he was utterly horrific as a right back for both Liverpool and England last year. Anyone who says otherwise knows literally nothing about football.

Sure, he looked very average offensively. Play two right wingers against any team not really suspecting it and he'll get a couple unsuspected goals and a few assists, how long did it take people to work out Liverpools right side would be easily exposed(and Englands, like Germany ran into the gap he left about 6 times in the game 2 which they scored from, might have been 3).

He can not defend, in the slightest, when he's run forwards he's slow and lazy about getting back, when he's back defending it was ALWAYS Johnson who was playing people onside, standing too far or too close to his centre back, leaving room, not tracking runs, fluffing clearances.

Hasn't he also been injured a lot aswell, as for favouring Caragher, over an untested, played a couple of games Kelly, who while looking very good, is a kid and most managers would use experience especially at a dodgey time at the start of a season.

Rafa bought the worlds most expensive useless right back, Konchesky would be about a million times better for 1/6th the cost of Johnson.

Either he'll go and you get some money back for the inept moron, or maybe he'll start to use him in midfield. For an attacking midfielder, he's average, he loses the advantage of not being the "second unsuspected winger" and he wasn't consistantly good going forward last year in the first place.

He's never had more than 3 goals in a season, or 5 assists, his natural game, as a winger, sorry but thats not particularly effective, and his natural game includes doing no defending at all and cost Liverpool FAR more goals than he scored or assisted.

EDIT:- While Johnson played Liverpool conceded 11 goals in 7 games, since he's been injured, they've conceded 6 goals in 6 games, won 3 on the trot, lost less games, and won 2 more without him in the side, conincidence.......... maybe. Thats also with only 3 away games in the 7 in played, vs 4 away games out of 6 since he stopped playing. So even with more away games, and one of the home games vs Chelsea, they've won more, lost less, conceded less and got a lot more points.

Yup, he was largely unheard of here as people don't really give a monkeys about non CL Spanish clubs, but he was fantastic, he would come on as a sub and utterly turn around games there. He's one of the best left wingers the games ever seen to be honest, scores from anywhere, vision second to none, unbelievable passing and shooting ability, just insanely good.

Whats really shocking is, he's been training at Arsenal since the summer, no idea why we didn't sign him up in a player/coach role, hopefully eventually being a long term coach with Arsenal, he's got the type of footballing brain that if Theo had it, along with his pace he'd be world class, he's the kind of guy you want teaching players when to pass/cross/shoot and how to make space and time for themselves.

I get the impression Houllier is thinking along those lines of having him work with him as a coach eventually, really not sure why Wenger didn't snap him up for free and let him finish his career with a few games at Arsenal followed by a coaching job.
