Supposedly £38.5m is his release clause, I imagine in a deal like that a lot of the fee is accounted for by the club in future rights.

Meaning to cover what he was on at Atletico after tax, at very least, Spurs would have to be paying him more per week than they can afford.

So basically athletico don't want to sell right now and if spurs gave aguero £38mil to buy himself out then it would count as income and he'd be taxed 40% on it...
