January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Triple post necessary :P
I will be! He scores a hat trick against nobodies and then thinks he can play and do nothing against a prem team.
Maybe the BBC are fixing results? Anyone for a Begovic howler tomorrow? :p

Yeah I know :( I'm tired and they felt far enough apart to not bother editing previous ones. I often have something typed in this box and forget to post it, so by the time I have there's something else to reply to!

Who's your money on for us to bring in Jan then? I can't work out if Dzeko is sounding more likely or less likely by the day.

Well Wolfsburg dont need the money so will only let Dzeko go for like 50m+ so he is out of the question.
I dont think we need anyone tbh. If Mancini can sort out Balotelli then were good to go.

Not really, I know there are some exceptions but the general rule of thumb for 'keepers is that they hit their best at around 30.

How many of the best keepers around only reached their best around 30?

Both Cech and Reina are 28 and have been considered the best keepers in the league for the past 5 years. Casillas is 29 and has been considered 1 of the best around for the past 5+ years and even Buffon who's now 32, has been regarded as 1 of the best around since he was 24-25.

Obviously keepers performances don't deteriorate as quickly as outfield players but the idea that they don't reach their best until they're 30 is nothing short of a myth.

At 26, if this guy isn't ready, I'd question whether he'll ever be.

You're missing the point and seem to think that I mean they are utter dog **** until they reach thirty and then *BAM* they're Schmeichel.

As you said, 'keepers do not rely as much on their fitness as outfield players, so this would mean that experience plays a larger part in their game. And experience would tend to come with age, would it not? All those players you listed were good during their twenties sure, but have they peaked yet? Considering that they don't have to compete against their bodies as many other aging athletes do, and that their mental experience is amounting with each week, isn't it likely that they haven't?

This all excludes Cech by the way, as it is widely known his magic was snuffed out by the boot of Stephen Hunt. :p

If you disagree with the exact numbering fine, 28/29 doesn't sound as good and is pedantic but whatever. The point stands.

Lindegaard may have to have a lot of the package now sure, but not all of it just yet.

I didn't think you were saying that a keeper goes from being **** to great the second he hits 30. I was questioning the rule that keepers aren't at their best until they're 30 and your implication that it's fair to consider a 26 year old as one for the future.

I agree that they're always gaining experience but that's no different to an outfield player and given the fact that most outfield players are still physically at their peak at 30, that would then mean they're not at their best until they're 30 too.

The best keepers around now have been at the top of their game since they were in their mid 20's. None of the 4 keepers I mentioned have or are likely to improve much from when they were ~26.

I've not seen Taggart's comments but if he's talking about him being 1 for the future, I can only imagine that he means he will be around for years to come. If you're signing a 26 year old, he's got to be more or less the finished article.
