January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

I'm just so disgusted that players aren't forced to work there contracts. Players like Torres are so very rare. There should be no backing down - Liverpool payed a premium to get him on a long contract so he should be forced to work it IMHO.

You can't really keep an unhappy player though, we learned that one with Mascherano. Much better moving them on & easing the wage bill.

If anything, there needs to be a rule that players must submit transfer requests within the first week of the window.

At least that would give clubs a bit of time to find a replacement, rather than the maddness of the past 24hrs.

If it was a higher profile player then for sure. However if he's on less than £30k to begin with and is desperate to complete the move, it's possible that he'd take a bit less.

For certain he won't be on less that £80k I'd imagine though.

Haha, you may be right. This is the best bit of the transfer window though; the mindless and fact-less speculation over the details of any deal that is done.

The fact you have just signed Carroll just moves the baiting onto the next stage; discussion of contracts, whether his salary will unsettle other players and who will have to look after Carroll at night times!

Hopefully he isn't on silly wages. As stated, the amount a player is actually paid is more relevant to these things than the actual fee.

Hargreaves may have been a massive fee loss but I would wager that his salary has been a harder pill to swallow. You are lucky that benitez isnt there still though or he would have carroll out there on crutches!

Getting curious now, what IS newcastles club record sale?

Just wondering because I notice that the wording sky is using for the Carroll deal has changed from sold for £35 million to a deal worth in excess of £35m , which I suppose could mean anything, could be £20 and 15 extra in addons, or 25 and 10 in addons, or whatever. The only thing that currently seems certain is that its a club record sale for newcastle, so wondered how much that would need to be.

This is what I hate about football, granted he is 22 and has potential but £35 million for someone that has personal problems, no international career and one and half years in top flight.

Liverpool need more than a striker, they need a whole new team.

It gets better, Carroll is £35m plus add-ons?

Newcastle bigging it up, dont quote ****e sports tbh, fee from ITKs (yes i know you all hate them) is under 30mil, around 27, still a hell of a lot more than hes worth. These ITKs have called pretty much most other stuff to.

Well in my cynical mind I hope Chelsea get there transfer ban reinstated for tapping up yet again.

It's not about keeping a unhappy player - it's more about the transfer process is all about what the player wants it doesnt matter how much money or time, etc. that a club puts into it. It's 'I want to go by the end of the transfer window in three days time' and everyone seems to be running around trying to make it possible rather than saying 'hold on a second here you still have x years left on your contract'.

Spurs source says we've had a club record bid accepted. No name confirmed yet.

Do you mean a player coming in or out. Hopefully in, we only have Bale and Modric who could command that sort of fee, don't want to be loosing them. Hopefully a player coming in, it seems Levy is pushing for Rossi, IMO there are far better options out there.

This is what i hate about people on football forums, over exagerration.

The EPL is splashing the cash on over priced English players and the SPL can't even lure unknown Championship players lol
