January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Only time will tell if losing Torres and gaining Suarez and Carroll has made us stronger or weaker but one thing's for sure, had H&G been in charge we would've lost Torres had no money to spend so in that respect we've massively better off.

I think that's it. Given that torres wanted to leave so badly, I wouldn't say liverpool were weakened as such. If he'd stayed, team spirit would have been affected and he wouldn't be performing at 100%. Now, liverpool have two, keen, young players.

Ah man the way this is being spun is too ****ing hilarious. What about that loyal hometown hero gerrard. He wanted out and stayed and the team won the champions league. Not bad for a player whose head was turned by chelsea.

That didn't hurt the team spirit did it?

Perhaps you should have sent the same boys round to threaten Torres?

I'm glad Rooney left everton, he didn't want to be there are we could replace him with someone who wanted to give 100% ;)

PMSL oh come on lets not delude ourselves. If 2 weeks ago you were told Carroll was coming in for Torres even if Suarez is there, you couldn't find a liverpool fan on this board to say you would be 'the same' or 'potentially' better off.

You just potentially lost the best striker in the EPL and replaced him with someone you can boot the ball at.

Thats probably true, but 2 weeks ago we didnt know that Torres was that desperate to go, quite the opposite. The question was what do we think now, not what did we think 2 weeks ago, or 6 months ago or a year ago. Right now , Torres going was unavoidable, I think the money gained from that and the revamp of the team and style potentially could make us better off. PMSL yourself all you like :)

I do have a sneaking suspicion the rules will be changed as several of the biggest Euro clubs panick themselves to death and put pressure on Uefa. Or will we have a season where City, Real, Barca(maybe? not sure if they are profitable after their tv revenue eventually gets paid to them) and several other huge clubs are all refused entry into the champs league, would be interesting at least.

Do not see uefa banning the top clubs. Who would want watch a cl without those teams?

So if Ronaldo scores the winning goal against UTd in the champs league final, they wouldn't be rivals? :p

If Chelsea had offered 80mil and Chelsea was where Ronaldo had dreamed of playing his entire career, he'd now be playing at Chelsea, thats how life works.

No he wouldn't, as proved with Heinze he wanted to join Liverpool and we flat out refused to sell to them. Same would have applied to Ronaldo

As it is Chelsea isn't Torres' dream club either, it's just they're the only ones showing interest in him in this window and he obviously wants out of Liverpool. Bet City are kicking themselves for bringing in Dzeko so early :D

Whats the point in having a player that doesn't want to play for you?
How many players hand in, or nearly hand in, transfer requests, and yet still play for the clubs they claim to want to leave?

Plenty. It's not the end of the world. Despite what fans would love to believe, you don't neccesarily need all your heart in a team to play well for them. Just because you want more money, or the chance to win things, doesn't mean you'll suddenly stop being decent for the team you're at. Who's want to buy you then?

He was? When he was asked if he was leaving all Houllier said was he's a very good player and there's liked by a lot of clubs or words to that effect.

Manager Gerard Houllier said: "I can confirm that Ashley is a highly-rated player and highly liked by everyone at Aston Villa. No way is he going to leave."

GET OFF YOUNG!!! :p

It's pretty clear he wanted out last year, yet no one has been saying this season, lets get rid of torres he isn't giving 100%.

I don't believe this whole torres rubbish came out of nowhere. They have known for quite some time he wasn't going to stay.

Come on Baz give us your reflections on the day now it's all but confirmed that Torres (your best players in your words) has left and you've replaced him with Carroll (regardless of the fee)

I know you've got the kid from Ajax as well but surely Liverpool have weakend themselves today?

Why bow to the pressure and sell Torres? Fergie for example would never sell one of our best players to a direct rival

Depends which way you look at it. If you look at the Torres and Carroll deals in isolation then of course we're worse off. But if you look at the window as a whole, Carroll and Suarez at least make up for the loss of Torres and hopefully we've got £20m+ extra to spend in the summer.

The club were completely aware that they had a fight on their hands to keep him but I'm certain that they didn't expect to lose him this window.

Had they known about it they'd have been much better prepared to sign a replacement.

Again, possibly, I myself thought he would go, but I thought it would be in the summer, not 3 days from the end of the transfer window. You know what they say, you cant make an omelette without breaking eggs. Sometimes what seems like a change to a team that will make you weaker actually ends up making you stronger. Ultimately we can sit here all night debating weaker or stronger but the fact is that we just wont know for quite a while yet which it is.
