January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

I'm still not convinced by Carroll, he'll be playing with better players at Liverpool though.

Suarez was a cracking deal.

Torres going and getting Suarez and Carroll isn't too bad. I was really impressed with Suarez. £35m for Carroll is a bit of a joke but getting them both for about the same as they got Torres will make the deal sweeter.

Surprised Chelski went for him though. And also that he went to them. I would have thought he would have returned to Spain with Barca or Madrid.

One thing I have to wonder about Torres is, how long before he might want to go back to play in Spain?

Difficult for him to go back to Spain. Barca don't need him nor could afford him and he can't go to Spain, although he's shown his true colours this last week so maybe he can.

I cant imagine that he will till he is thinking about slowing down. Hes 27 now I think. He will be at chelsea for 3-4 years at least and I should imagine that he will help them win some silverware which will keep him happy.

Fuming Leeds haven't signed anyone. Let 4/5 squad players go and bring in no one whilst every other club around us signing Premiership youngsters etc.

If they'd offered 80mil for Heinze Fergie would have driven him there himself ;)

Actually, I had a quick look at the rules, it refers to another manual to see what the punishments would be, a bit of googling and Uefa haven't writen the punishment/sanctions regulations and rules yet. They know how they are going to get the financial info, how its collected, what loss you can have and why etc, but they haven't actually decided what to DO with that info yet :p

Seems to be, warnings, sanctions, fines, bigger fines and banning from competitions. Though I would think if you're 80mil with losses they'll start somewhere higher up the chain.

I think the general idea is less to punish clubs, but more to give the top clubs a reason to not(by then) be paying 400k a week for the top star that year, which could be very good for the game. Its a bargaining chip to say to squad members, we can't afford to pay you 250k a week anymore, but theres no point leaving, NO ONE can afford to pay you 250k a week, unless you are the single star with everyone else on 10k a week and in the relegation zone.

Transfer fee's should become more sane aswell as Real just can't pay 80mil for anyone, ever again.

What it will probably mean is contract renegotiating post 13/14 season will mean pay cuts for a lot of the "biggest" names in football.

This is why I chuckle when everyone assumes if City don't break even we'll be banned from the Champions League. UEFA said the harshest thing they could potentially do is to ban clubs from the CL. Press get hold of it and obviously go "Anyone who doesn't make the grade will be banned, period". It's not even close to that simple.

The benefit is with the fear factor, and that's all it likely will ever be, wages and transfers will come down to more sane levels, hopefully even agents will have less powers to unsettle players or push for certain deals. But that's about it.
