Torres IS the best striker in the world without a doubt; he will be forever missed at anfield, but you have to be realistic - £50 million is great for a team in liverpools position. A player who is not happy, is going to be 27 soon, he will never command a higher fee than this again. We are making a £30m profit on him, and realistically in the next 3 years liverpool wont be challenging for the league, they are going to be playing for 4th place.
Liverpool wont be in direct competition with man utd or chelsea, and by this time torres may be past his best. It is a gamble no doubt, but who is to say Torres has already had his best years in England?
Rather than having one sulky player not giving 100% , we will have two, and we wont be so reliant on one person up front.
Risky dealings yes, but it probably gives us a little more depth than having a 50% Torres only upfront.
