January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Sorry but I really don't get the idea behind closing the other thread. We weren't really supposed to have a banter thread because mods didn't like the idea of it, now we're closing threads that actually have a topic to them?

This thread is nearly 60 pages long and full of crap. Why on Earth should it be where we talk about Gary Neville's retirement?

It shouldn't be but people were talking about it in here before the other thread was created, then you get the same topic being discussed in 2 thread because you have dullards responding to posts in here.

Ive liked GN as a player for Utd and England for years, probably one of the best Right wing back / full back either has seen for a very long time (or for a long time to come)

Very sad to see him retire, but the writing has been on the wall for a year or so unfortunately - his legs just cant handle the injuries he's suffered.

Surprised that some articles are suggesting he is walking away completely (not suggesting for a second he doesnt deserve it, I just thought he would continue behind the scenes as a couch etc).

If Rafael can become 1/2 the player GN is , Man Utd RB position is in safe ......feet?

For his patriotic fervour for Utd, any club would be proud to have had him on their books for the last 2 decades.

Absolute legend. Can see why the unwashed masses mightn't like him but he did give his for our club all whether it was hacking players down because he can't be arsed running after them in his later years or ****ing in Gerrard's waterbottle before a derby.

May he long carry on in punditry, even if just to even out the irritation of ex-Liverpool 'pros'.

He will no doubt become a coach at some point for MU, he may just want time out to chill for a bit but there could also be legs in the Sky job.

So let the dullards post in the wrong thread, delete the post in this thread, tell them to post in that thread, or ban everybody.

Why should the transfer thread in any way be the Gary Neville Retires thread? Because Mr. White posted it in here instead of bothering to make a thread? Poor reasoning.

Hey I'm just telling it like it is/was.

I quite like it being turned into the GN thread, makes it more prominent and important than Torres or whoever selling their souls.

:p

For £35m you want a striker who will come in, score 25-30 in his first season and then get about the same every season until he leaves/gets old. I'm not a fortune teller but I don't think that is Andy Carroll now or ever.

Really? Because I'd be intrigued to see how many strikers valued at £35m+ have done that? If you care to name any? The £50m striker couldn't even manage it.

And only two of them are strikers.

I took his question to mean anyone around that price range.

EDIT: Actually no, why can't I count Ronaldo? Or Villa for that matter? Both are well on their way to scoring more than 25 this season.

Hernan Crespo?

EDIT: Also, aren't you basically just admitting that paying £35m for a striker is stupid?

According to his wiki, hes only ever scored more than 25 in 3 seasons out of 19 (once at Lazio), never in england. Most he scored for Chelsea was 13.

No, I'm saying expecting 25-30 goals every season from any striker is ridiculous.

Yeah, anyone at the top level really. Who would be transferred for around similar money (or more) if it happened. Ronaldo is probably the only one that comes to mind. Villas done it twice in his career. It's just not a realistic target to expect a striker to churn out that many goals every season, even at the top level.

Don't get me wrong, Carroll has a lot to prove for the kind of money, but some people just come out with complete rubbish.

I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22.

Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up and my debut in an international friendly.

Am a I £35M striker?

No I am Michael Ricketts February 2002.
:D

I've got my distinct suspicions that if anyone managed to get Eto'o when he isn't in a strop about something or other he'd easily be 25+ goals a season given that for the past five or so years he's averaged only slightly less than a goal a game although I'd agree he's something of a rarity.

Eto'o will just score and score and score. Shame about his temper. I think he'd still be absolutely bossing Barca if Pep didn't like his disruption. Not that moody old Zlatan was much better in that respect. Villa is a much better fit and closer to the mould of Eto'o; the sort of player that suits Barca.
