January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

I notice you never praise Ferguson for the signing of Hernandez? Given that he cost about the same as VdV, in the interests of fairness, and has had about the same relative impact,

no. ive rated hernandez - my opinion was good signing, but i expected him to get Manucho'd out of the team. i.e brought in - not played and sent out again before we saw his real value. Fortunately/unfortunately, rooney got 'injured' paving the way for chicarito to come in and show his value.

But for every Hernandez, there has been a Bellion, a Manucho, a Dong, Macheda and a Rossi. if you throw the cash at enough youngsters some will come good.

I backed the Anderson situation but so far it hasnt paid off has it:/

Has hernandez had the impact of VdV? you have me laughing in stiches if you really believe that that is true.

id draw a line under the whole saga if people could just admit:

'Not signing VdV was a big miscalculation by fergie, its okay to criticise in this instance because he was the right price, in a position we despereately need."

instead its like im talking a foreign language - that somehow warrants responses such as: "fergie is the best manager eva!!!! RIGHT!!!?! do you know what i think about you?! OMG UTD are better now than EVER. !" how dare you say that something fergie didnt do was a mistake. fegie owns joo. LOL Football Manager 2009 transfer policy" etc

why cant we all just agree that missing out on VdV was costly. and that he could have been a real driving force for us this season adding a new and unique option to our team that could have complemented our other calamity purchases. VdV supporting berbatov works. Carrick and fletcher supporting berba = molatov.

Didn't Bale go to Spurs rather than United because Spurs said they'll play him as defender and united wanted him at midfield?

do you know that vdv wanted to come to utd?

I'd say location was a major difference, and the fact he near enough is guaranteed a first team spot at Spurs, whereas he isn't at Utd.

And I can very much not see Hernandez becoming Manucho'd, for once he has played much more than most of the players Fergie has bought then sold.

just to clarify you knew Hernandez before he came to United then? So you thought good signing at the time?

That would explain why he doesn't know what hes on about half the time - he spends more time watching the Mexican league! :p

I was under the impression VdV was offered to Tottenham rather than the other way round and that RM wouldn't have sold to a (perceived) european competitor?

If that is true I will rofl if Spurs knock Real Madrid out further in the competition. :D

Arshavin looked poor in preseason (stark contrast to Nasri) and exactly the same has continued in the first few months of this campaign. I really rate the guy and will never forget his 4-goals at Anfield but at his age he needs to be delivering more now. To be fair he did come out and say his form wasn't the greatest so hopefully we will see some improvement, for all Wenger's pontificating about his assist stats.

well he was about to sign for bayern munich - surely they would class them as a european competitor? given that they made it to last years final KOing us in the process? Using common sense we can discount this argument almost entirely.

and given that we had just sold them, RvN, Beckham and then Ronaldo - you'd think that there would have been some goodwill and if we had matched or slightly outbid spurs then its likely the bid would have been accepted?

No, i never said that. i watched some YT of him prior to the world cup and he looked great - you can search this forum for that thread if you want.

like i said, yes he has. is that luck, i.e roo being out, or because fergie would have played him anyway?

like.. diouff?

How and when would you have managed to outbid a deadline-day offer that wasn't even made known to you?

No, i never said that. i watched some YT of him prior to the world cup and he looked great - you can search this forum for that thread if you want.
And this proves what? Everyone looks good on youtube.

You do know Manucho was woeful on loan to Hull, don't you? Maybe, just maybe, Ferguson saw he wasn't up to much in training, and decided to loan him out to see how he did. Lo and behold, he wasn't much cop, and he junked him.

I like that you've now moved on from criticising Ferguson for not signing everyone decent, to criticising him for not giving crap players a chance in the first team. Where are Dong and Manucho now?

Commolli to become Liverpool's new DoF.

Whilst he is prone to the odd dud signing, he was responsible for quite a lot of the talent that came our way in recent years.

Not sure it goes in here but Liverpool have appointed Damien Comolli as "Director of Football Strategy", which from what I understand basically means he's a scout.

A lot of the reaction to this has been very positive but from what I remember he got a lot of stick during his time at Spurs.

Taken from the Beeb:
SELECTED COMOLLI SIGNINGS
Tom Huddlestone
Aaron Lennon
Jermaine Jenas
Benoit Assou-Ekotto
Dimitar Berbatov
Didier Zakora
Gareth Bale
Jonathan Woodgate
Luka Modric
Heurelho Gomes
Grzegorz Rasiak
Mido
Ricardo Rocha
Darren Bent
Giovani dos Santos
Roman Pavlyuchenko
Vedran Corluka

There aren't many of them I wouldn't take at Liverpool for the right price to be fair. I think the only dodgy ones are Rocha, Mido, and Rasiak. If he can keep up that sort of form I'll be happy.

Although, this is Comolli on Bale: ""I remember coming back from scouting him and thinking 'I've seen the new Paolo Maldini'."

Mildly concerning, they couldn't be more different!
