** January Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

Dont really have much joy at the idea of signing Darren Bent. I'd rather we tried for Lukas Podolski to be honest. I suppose Bent is a proven premiership goalscorer, but I worry about the rest of his game and his work rate.

Don't mind Lampard but it'd be weird. In a way it would kind of make sense if ferguson does have faith in the younger players long term. He'd score a few and allow us to actually play a midfielder in midfield, which would be nice.

It would be very strange for me too - but I cant see SAF going for it.

Its not the transfer fee (with 18 months left for a 33 year old would probably be small, esp with AVB's attitude towards him), he would demand very high wages, very short term fix and he is unlikely to be able to start every game

He would also be 6 years older than the club's self imposed age limit on transfers

Also its not like Lampard hasnt already won the EPL, its not such a burning desire to win it (dont get me wrong, 3rd /4th win is still a nice feeling) and he wouldnt be gaurenteed to play every game like he wants to. If Utd were still in the CL it would also make a difference.

If Lampard was willing to accept a role similar to Giggs (playing 1 in every 3 games or so) then maybe - but he doesnt seem to be willing to accept that at Chelsea so why would he at a new club?

:D

It was funny when someone posted his summer timeline
It was funny when someone posted his timeline from last night...

10:49pm - I know who our main target is for this window. Found out this morning. I am not going to say who cause I am not allowed but he hasn't been mentioned by ANYBODY.

10:53pm - I'll tell a mod who it is but they can't let it out.....

11:03pm - **** it. Its Gomis.

...left me speechless.

On transfers: "What can you get in January? The players we'd like we can't get. If the alternative is to sign a 2nd-rate player, we don't want to do that. our injuries have led to fans wanting us to sign someone, but I don't want to sign a player who won't get a game when everyone's fit because he's not good enough."

Fergie this morning in the press conference. Seems he has his eye on some people but they aren't available yet so will have to wait for the summer. But as per, what he says and what he could actually be doing might be vastly different but I don't hold out hope.

I'd just like our 11 injured players back in the squad, that'd be nice.

The thing is....why didn't we sign them in the summer then? He keeps saying there is only a few players that would improve our squad but that is just bullcrap, there are dozens of players in the premier league alone that would improve our midfield.

Its just a default answer Fergie and Wenger give, as I keep saying both of these guys biggest problem is the failure to recognise how bad certain players are.

I actually believe Fergie and Wenger when they trot out the same answers over and over again of the squad is great and only a very select number of players could improve it. I think the problem is older geezers who at first have an older team and feel less, emotional and have no problem being cut throat about them. Petit and Overmars didn't join as 16 year olds and Wenger had no problem cashing in on a club wanting to massively overspend on them. Good, it helped Arsenal it was bang on the right decision.

With Denilson(someone who HE asked to leave, not Wenger getting rid), Diaby, Song, Gibbs, these are guys he bought in mostly at a young age, who you would naturally feel more protective of, probably help settle in the country a bit more than an older player and seemingly have a MUCH harder time both recognising how crap they current are and not having that ability to cut the teams losses and move on.

Ryan giggs should not have got yet another contract, maybe he'll be a great coach, who knows, but as a player the wage he's on vs his ability, he's not been good enough for 2-3 years, the odd great performance with half a dozen woeful performances in between and a sentimental vote on player of the year doesn't make him good.

Arsenal and utd with a pretty decent manager replacing them would I feel clear out the dead wood of both clubs pretty quickly and turn the teams around in quality purely on the basis of replacing crap players with even half decent ones being cheap and easy.

Utd really shouldn't have a problem with finding dozens of available players who are better than Carrick/Fletcher/Anderson, they've needed a real DM for, 4-5 years basically and a Scholes replacement to go with a new DM for almost as long.

Its also the case that Utd (and any other club) dont want to spoil any younger players developement, after all it must be difficult as an 18/19yo to come into a massive club just to play infront of those kinds of crowds let alone playing with Vidic / Rooney etc etc Obviously they have to get used to it, but its not something that cant be brushed off

Im not suggesting that any kid that Utd presently have will be a world beater, but on the other hand the likes of Cleverley (and to a lesser extent Pogba and Morrison) have a good chance of being better than Giggs (as a CM), Anderson , Fletcher

Its also worth mentioning that since the summer the position within the club has potentially significantly changed for Morrison / Pogba - again doesnt mean they will be given up on but reading between the lines it sounds like SAF might not be so keen to keep either (esp given their wishy washy displays so far and off field issues as well)

We've never played with a DM and wont whilst SAF is still in charge

do real DM's exist anymore (in the EPL) - or are they more in the mold of "box to box" midfielders like Keane and Fletcher?

IMO that position has changed in a lot of clubs, and DM's are less and less used in such a strict positional sense

I like what Ferguson is saying, we've seen how football has been destroyed by the money etc. it's actually refreshing to see a manager try and improve the players he has and have faith in them rather than just spending £XXm to sort it out. Then again he did bomb £20m (!!!!!) on a 'keeper in the summer so it is curious that he won't spend on the midfield. Also leads me to believe that he might not actually believe what he's saying

I do agree he is better than what we have now, but he's also 33. It's not a long term option and I'm sure we'd have to pay a lot more than he's worth considering how many years of top quality football he likely has left.

yeh, i mean, giggs is only 5 yrs older!

lampard would go to spurs over united anyway
