The Sun reading tea leaves, saying Mourinho is plotting a £48m raid for Higuain and that Napoli are ready to deal.

I'm sure the Sun just put a list of names in one hat and a list of clubs in another then pick them out. Viola! Next days transfer speculation.

Can't see chelsea getting a striker this window. It'll be too expensive in Jan.

Really hoping we sign Luke Shaw though as he looks a fantastic prospect.

Lamela wants out Mirror Spurs' record signing Erik Lamela could depart White Hart Lane on a six-month loan move as he looks to keep alive his World Cup hopes.

The 21-year-old Argentine has struggled since his £30 million arrival from Roma in August and as Darren Lewis reports, is now chasing a temporary move.

If you're worried about paying over the top on a striker, I'd forget Shaw if I was you. I can't see Shaw leaving Southampton for anything other than a stupid fee.

Shaw, I'd think it would take a big fee currently, but Southampton could have a shocker next season and get relegated, in which case he could easily go relatively cheap. Any time soon I think he'd cost a bomb, relatively speaking, 25mil +, but then he might be worth that if he's the next ashley cole and could be the best LB in the league for the next 15 years. Mourinho has spent silly money on Coentrao who can barely defend, can't imagine what he'd pay for an actually good left back :p

On lamela, up till AVB got fired I wouldn't be surprised if he/his agent spent a couple months pushing for a loan move to get some games, nothing unusual about that, AVB was seemingly refusing to use him in the league seriously.
I expect Sherwood to use him more and more, currently he would be lacking a bit of match fitness/sharpness, so a busy xmas period isn't the best time to do back to back starts. By the end of Jan he'll likely be a solid first team player and won't want to move away.

Ravel Morrison reportedly available for around £10mil as has a clause in his contract, i don't think he's worth that myself but no doubt some teams will come sniffing.

Liverpool need a new right back, a new starting keeper and a new left winger. Maybe play Flanagan on the right and buy a new left back. Johnson and Coutinho just aren't good enough to start and Mignolet should be second choice as some of his saves are pathetic, he can't kick the ball and he's always doing stupid **** at the back. Could also do with a new centre midfielder, someone with an Iniesta playstyle. I'd get rid of Sissoko and Aspas.

Did you watch it tonight? Countinho's final ball is dreadful, always ruining attacks with terrible passing, not to mention his shooting which is equally crap. A better player in his position could've scored 10+ this season. Did you see his miss against City on boxing day? That's one of many! Fed up watching him make the same stupid mistakes match in match out and ruining attacks. As for Mignolet he's always getting caught in possession, he's probably the worst keeper in the prem in terms of kicking, he slices such a high proportion of his kicks it's just not good enough. He has also made maybe 5ish serious mistakes that have cost us goals this season. I genuinely don't believe he's good enough to be our first choice keeper. Both good subs but not good enough to start.

You're not going to find many people agreeing with you Daze. Coutinho's fantastic, if not quite on top of his game, and potentially world class. And Mignolet's been a revelation, I'm not sure where you're getting 5 mistakes from.

You could say he was at fault for Chelsea's 2nd today (but not a howler by any means) and vs City but he's won us far more points than any dropped points in these last 2 games. His kicking isn't great but he's as good as shot stopper as anybody in the league.

And there's no way Flanagan's got a long term future at Liverpool. He's had a couple of good games but he's a very limited footballer and generally a rash defender. He'll go the same way as Stephen Warnock.

I don't agree with you on Flanagan. He's looking more and more composed in possession and has really impressed me this season.

The best you can say about Flanagan is that he's done a job. His natural position is right back and an under par Johnson, a perma-injured Kelly and Wisdom are all ahead of him although they could all be behind a new right back if they don't improve/prove themselves by the summer.

Composed or not, he's extremely limited in what he can do from an attacking point of view. We want/need fullbacks that are comfortable going forward, something Flanagan never will be.

Maybe he can become an Ivanovic/Carra type RB but that's unlikely and as above, not what we need.

I'm really starting to worry about Kelly. He came on for 30-40 minutes vs Cardiff and he's seemingly injured again.

I wouldn't be surprised if he retires before he turns 25 which would be such a shame. His debut was possible the most impressive debut I've seen from a Liverpool player in as long as I can remember.

I think that composure is exactly what this side needs, though. Usually, I'd agree - most PL teams require full backs who can bomb on to the by-line. This one needs players who are capable of joining in with the midfielders and passing the ball. Flanagan fits that bill well.

I'm worried about Kelly as well. Was his debut that match against Lyon? He was absolutely spectacular in that match.

Disagree about our fullbacks. In a 4-3-3 and with how Rodgers wants to play, you need your fullbacks to provide width in attack.

And yea, it was Lyon. Benitez was still in charge, that's how long ago it was. He came off injured that day and was out for a few months and then he picked up another injury when he started training again that kept him out for the season. It's been injury after injury ever since then.
