*January Transfer Window 2014/15 Season Rumours/Signings*

Go on then, why not?

Di Maria went to Utd after all....

Well RM have won 19 in a row, do they need to change anything? Especially when they have the perfect players in the positions they desire. Bale is in top form, Aguero couldn't play where he does. Of course Aguero is better than Benzema but it wouldn't be worth the change that some dreamer has made up with that story :p

More rumours Vidic may return (Daily Star though so maybe LOL) and now Roma are out Strootman could be on for January.

I see Strootman as a long term replacement for Carrick so not sure we really need him before the summer but with the injuries and if he is available, why not.

On paper, if everyone was fit I see our squad as nearly there bar a shake up in central defence:

---------------------------- De Gea / Lindegaard ------------------------------

- Rafael / Valencia -- Smalling / Evans -- Rojo / Blackett -- Shaw / Young -

--------------- Carrick / Blind then next year Strootman / Blind -------------

------------ Herrera / Fellaini ------------------ Di Maria / Januzaj -----------

---------------------------------- Rooney / Mata --------------------------------

----------- Van Persie / Wilson ----------------- Falcao / Rooney -------------

i could live with that.

bar evans, he'll be gone soon :p

Jones, Smalling, Evans and Rafael are all too injury prone to be reliable, regardless of whether people think they're good enough or not.

We've needed a rb for aages anyone who says differently must be going on for insane! But why this is obvious now while it wasn't 2 years ago when we were playing Smalling or jones there i will never know. Jwll i was ta about this problem in 2012!

A2M i understand it very well. name our first choice rb. that's right we basically don't have one. We have 2 youth prospects (rafael/Fabio) but who the hell is number 1? If you say Rafael i want you to count how many consecutive games he has played for us in any one streak. That it will be a low number means that he cannot realistically be counted upon to be our first choice rb. Therefore by not signing one of sufficient qality was always going to be a mistake.

With rio and vidic injury/suspension records smalling was always going to get a game. Plus if we were still in 4 cups the opportunities present themselves.

Phil Jones has looked bad in midfield and worse at rb.

i know city have money but i don't see them playing a 19 yo cb in cm. or relying upon another unproven like cleverly.
Please read the FAQ regarding signatures

We need full backs, having zero backup for Shaw/Rafael is crippling.
Was saying to a colleague that if we sign a CB in January Rojo could backup Shaw at LB but obviously Rojo is more a CB.

As for Rafael needing a backup, don't we actually need Rafael to be fit and playing? I can see us signing an RB for Rafael to be backup to!

For Argentina I think he is more of a left back - but for Sporting he was more CB (or its the other way round :))

Im really not convinced he is decent at either - but at this point in time (and for the relatively small transfer fee, and moderate wages) I don't see a problem. Decent squad player and if he can grow into the EPL even better.

I love Rafael as a character and as a player, but even forgetting about his constant injuries its the red mist in big games that worries me. Personally would like a good right full back and maybe give Janko a few chances (even as sub) to see how he gets on.

Left back (as long as we can get Shaw fully fit and keep him fit) and rojo isn't a bad option at all but would love to see a youngster come through (not sure how good Vermijl is , but it seems to depend on where you read as to how good /bad /promising or not he is)

One CB (preferably made of granite rather than glass hahaha) is an absolute must.

edit - and I think Carrick just signed another contract to the end of the 15/16 season. Certainly since he came back Utd have been getting the points so its far from a bad choice imo

Ah, wasn't aware he played in different roles for his previous club and country. :)

I agree. He's not the best we could have signed but we needed someone due to Rio/Vidic/Evra leaving and he was a fairly decent buy. Should Jones/Smalling leave over the summer and we get a decent solid CB in Rojo might be the CB/DL backup player.

Again, agree. Rafael is a character and loves playing for us. He scores some absolute screamers as well but there is the big worry about how often he gets angry in big games and gets silly yellows early on against some marauding attacker who knows they've then got Rafael in their pocket for the rest of the game unless he does a Smalling and gets a quick 2nd yellow. :D

I think LVG will give the likes of Saidy and Marnick a go, perhaps towards the end of the season in easier games that we've sealed up or in next season's pre-season friendlies.

What do you reckon to the rumours of Godin then for a January transfer?

A colleague doesn't rate Carrick. I think he's the major unsung hero at Utd. He's obviously nearer the end of his career than the beginning but, like you say, Utd's recent resurgence has coincided with Carrick coming back. If the likes of Fellaini/Herrera and perhaps Strootman can fulfil their potential, we could have a decent MC partnership for the first time in a while since we lost Scholes. Has Carrick had any decent MC partners since Scholes retired?

I don't even see how Carrick fits into the team when everyone is fit. He's been ok but he's been outshone by both Herrera and Fellaini (even considering how bad he was against Soton)

Negative. Since he has come back we have won every game IIRC? And his stats are better than anyone else in the league.

He has the added benefit of being able to drop into defence when required.

He has been the calming rock to our side since he has come back.

lol, Friday morning Wenger, paraphrased

"If everyone is fit then we don't need to buy in January"

Friday very slightly later that morning "Ramsey is out for a month".

Wenger dictating January business on the idea that Arsenal can go to the end of the season without more injuries... doesn't make it to lunchtime of the day he says it.

He highlighted Koscielny as the only injury worry despite Diaby, now Ramsey, Arteta, Monreal, Walcott, Wilshere at the very least all being injured currently.

That is like saying Valencia and Young have been playing wing back every game recently that we've won.

He really hasn't been that great.
