*January Transfer Window 2014/15 Season Rumours/Signings*

I told you, don't be surprised to see Sterling and Markovic as wingbacks with Coutinho and Lallana off Sturridge. It would be such a Rodgers thing to do.

Delph is a very good player. I was having this chat with a Villa fan this week.

Personally I think Arsenal would be a better fit for him, but he'd be one of Liverpool's better and more consistent midfielders. Hendo was a surprise signing for me but he quickly grew there, if Delph develops any further at Liverpool he'll be a shoe-in.

The only question mark is fitness/injuries. He's had a bad run, but they've been unlucky and unrelated to each other so there's no reason to think it's too big a problem at the moment.

If we were playing regularly with a 3 man midfield then Delph would be a decent signing. Like Henderson he can get up and down the pitch well and is good on the counter attack. I certainly wouldn't say Delph is as good as Henderson though and surprisingly, he's older too. I think they're both in similar situations though where they now really need to kick on and start contributing with more goals and assists. Henderson's doing that better than Delph at the moment but it's probably easier to do it at Liverpool than Villa though.

If we're sticking with this 3-4-3 formation then we need more Alonso or Mascherano type midfielders. Somebody that will either sit in and dictate the play or a destroyer that will cover the wingbacks. I don't think Delph can fill either of those roles.

Delph is a useful footballer, but if our remaining central midfielders are him, Allen, Henderson, and possibly Lucas, then we're heavily reliant on the strikers, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling and Markovic for goals. We need to keep Lucas/replace him like for like, and add someone who can score goals from midfield.

As I said last night, that's somewhere where Henderson needs to improve. He needs to be scoring 10-15 goals per season.

That said, if we are going with this 3-4-3 with very attacking wing backs and 3 up front then goals for the midfield 2 aren't so important. But then as Pigeon touched on yesterday you're looking at Coutinho and Lallana to score more.

I try to not get excited when I see various rumors about Man United signing CB's such as Hummels, Varane and Laporte. If 2 of these happened, preferably Varane and Laporte IMO, wow. We may actually be able to start keeping some clean sheets without De Gea having to pull off heroics every match.

Strongly hoping the reason we have signed Valdes isn't to take over from De Gea when he jet's off to Real in the summer, but I suppose it's a good idea having better back up than Lindegaard. Would prefer De Gea over Bale, just..

If given the choice I would easily keep De Gea over getting Bale in some "swap" deal.

Utd have struggled for years to get a decent keeper, no way should be letting a world-class keeper the club has built up from a prospective talent to the mega -star he is today so easily (or while he is still so young).

A lot of rumours today Villa are trying to get a loan for Januzzaj (thought there was a rule about there could only be one player loaned from one club to the same other club in the EPL in the same loan period), so with Cleverley already there, not sure this is going to go anywhere

Totally agree. We can get other wingers if we need to but goalkeepers of De Gea's talent aren't that plentiful. One plays at Chelsea and another at Bayern Munich. To buy either one of those would cost us a lot of money.

We could always persuade Villa to buy Cleverley if they want Januzaj on loan. ;)

If we were to let De Gea go I think the best replacement would be Cech. I really wouldn't like to see him leave though.

The only thing we need to get sorted before the summer in my view is another defender or two and to get DDG tied down into a long term contract. I'm not quite sure why we haven't done so before now other than club policy. He has been brilliant for a few seasons now.

True. I don't think Chelsea would hold us to ransom with Cech as they would with Courtois. I don't think that a 32 year old, whilst still very good, is a suitable replacement for a 24 year old. We need to keep De Gea, or if he does leave, make sure we get a heck of a lot of dosh, preferably up front.

Indeed. De Gea has saved us many games and points of late. Get him tied down to a long term contract LVG!!

Assaidi's supposedly been recalled from his loan at Stoke and is being sold to some club from Dubai for just under £5m.

edit: On De Gea, it can surely only be him and not the club that's delaying any new contract. He's going to be down to just 1 year(?) left on his deal in the summer so even if Utd didn't want to keep him (I'm sure they do) they'd still want to give him a new deal to protect his value. De Gea's importance to Utd and rumoured interest from Real leaves him in a great bargaining position and it's no surprise if he's not in a hurry to sign.

I think he be on his way in the next 2 years but United will get him on a new deal to increase the figure then I'd expect them to want 40-50m for him with his ability and age.

If he does want to leave then it makes little sense him signing a new deal. With just a year left on his deal Utd will almost be forced into selling this summer and they'd be lucky to get his full value. With a new deal, as you say, Utd will demand big money and will anybody pay massive money on a keeper?

I don't understand why people wouldn't pay a lot of money for one of the top keepers in the world. They make a huge difference to a side.

Hypothetically would De Gea win you enough more points to justify paying double on him over Lloris for example?

Also the clubs that could afford to pay massive money tend to spend big on glamour signings - usually attackers. I always remember when Real signed Alonso from us - the management and director of football all wanted him but Perez needed persuading into paying £30-35m on a holding midfielder.

is Lloris anywhere as good as Courtois or De Gea (latter two cant be split imo)

IF "no" then any amount of money to keep De Gea is worth it, given (hopefully) CL football next season , not to mention more English cup football

I have nothing against Lloris, but sometimes he does remind me a little of Barthez.....

I think the world record for a GK is still the Buffon sale to Juve in 2001 isn't it , around 40m euros? Which is nothing (and a long time ago considering everything) compared to a lot of sales now adays.

Im not saying it will count for anything at all - but I would hope at the very least De Gea would sign a new contract at the very least to respect what Man Utd have helped him achieve and "give" the club what they deserve for backing him for those first two -ish dodgy seasons

Its not like Real are going to run out of money any time soon hahaha
