January Transfer Window 2016/17 - Rumours & Signings

If I remember correctly, Liverpool was interested in him and LVG decided to act fast and sign him. Shame that it did not work out but at least we should not lose out entirely on him in the long run. Either we get first choice on buy back if he improves or we recoup the money.

Sets it up nicely for a few new faces in the summer.

PSG were also originally heavily linked to Depay from what I recall.

Sounds like Utd lost about £10m in straight transfer fees - I believe Utd paid £26.3m originally, but could make upto £5m back in add-ons

I think Depay could still become a top winger, he hasn't really had a run of games since the early part of his first season. I don't think he even played 90 mins for Mourinho.

Jose Fonte to West Ham. Don't get it from either perspective really. Understand Fonte wanting to leave but would have thought he was aiming higher or closer to home.

Finally, it's done and dusted. 5½ year, £12 million deal. With the possibility of it rising to £15 million with add-ons.

I saw a report over the weekend saying he only had 6 months left on his contract - if thats true, thats a huge amount of money.

Should do well there

Robbie Keane back to Leeds United? Really wouldn't mind him coming back for a year with the option of an extra year. We won't get promoted with just Chris Wood

Jesus, the media realyl does love talking up potential Man United signings don't they.

Amount of **** I've seen about Griezmann is ridiculous.

Really? I just don't think he's that good on the ball, he never beats a man and has shown poor end product when he's got in good positions.

I think what did for him this season is that when he came on to do a job, he was woeful in defensive positions. The number of times he'd miss a tackle, play a poor pass, turn off or just give the ball away when we just needed a bit of composure was incredibly annoying. I know he's not a defensive player but he just didn't seem to have enough about him to not **** up.

What would be the point of sending a 31 year old out on loan. We might as well just sell him. Seems unlikely that he'll be allowed to go now that we've sold Depay though.

I doubt there will be many suitors, given his wages.

Well no, that's why we've never been able to get rid of him before! No advantage to the club to send him out on loan though, especially as we lack cover now and still would likely have to pay the majority of his wages.

anyone really think £2m in wages to a top ten club (let alone one who is top of one of the most recent "money leagues") is really worth considering?

Now if there is a (lets say) £2m loan fee + the club in question are paying half the wages - ie so Man Utd break even.....then that makes sense from a corporate point of view, but without the loan fee why is it worth the bother from Utd's standpoint?

Obviously if you are Hull /CP etc 2m is a big deal and I totally respect that, but for such a small amount to the top 6 its a completely meaningless amount.

I wish JM would play the kids more, but he really doesnt seem keen to at all , so having that possibility isnt really meaningful in the first place.

Its not even as though Utd are desperate for squad places either now (not that Utd really look likely to buying anyone until the summer)

Totally appreciate the player wanting to play (but of course he wants to keep 100% of his wages while playing under a lot less pressure etc etc)

They were talking about that on the radio last night, that he would do a suarez, sign a bigger deal for a season and everyone wins before he moves on next summer. I'm not convinced though that he will move on, he's very good but I don't see Barca or Madrid requiring him.

The point is that if I have something I'm not going to use, I may as well get some money back, even if I'm a billionaire. So, if they don't see him as a useful player, they'd be stupid to turn down millions, regardless of how much they have.

if its Rooney's wages then fair enough completely - but given the small amount of money its better to have him and not need him than lose out financially by loaning him out and then have 3 experienced full backs injured / banned etc for a final or knock out game

Not sure how much I believe about Barca struggling to afford Suarez / Neymar and Messi's new contracts on their current income but at least one 30 year old all of them scoring a lot less than last season according to reports before chistmas, but either way I can clearly say (for instance) James Rodriguez leaving RM and Coutinho type / age / skill level coming in and making a significant positive difference - obviously Liverpool would fight hard and so they should, absolute quality player
