January Transfer Window 2016/17 - Rumours & Signings

Not necessarily transfer news, but Coutinho has signed a new 5 year deal with Liverpool. apparently without a release clause, which is good news.

Great news.
They were talking about that on the radio last night, that he would do a suarez, sign a bigger deal for a season and everyone wins before he moves on next summer. I'm not convinced though that he will move on, he's very good but I don't see Barca or Madrid requiring him.

I don't see him fitting in at Real but he would at Barca and they clearly want him. The problem is the money we'd demand. Even before this new deal he still had 3 years left on his deal and given the fees that have been paid for inferior players we were always going to demand stupid money.

He's not good enough to do anything other than warm the bench at Barca right now, that's why he's not there. Signing a new deal and getting 150k while waiting it out on a longer deal suits all parties.

Who knows how important CL football is to him and it's going to be close for the T4 this year.

He gets in the Barca team, just in midfield rather than their attack and as a midfielder he's not worth the mega money it would take to get him.

I honestly don't know who he would replace. He's not as good or as influential as Iniesta yet and both Rakitic and Busquets play different roles so I'd have to agree with Danny and say he sits on the bench at the moment. He would/will be a great replacement for Iniesta long term though.

I think he plays instead of Iniesta, you'd stick him behind MSN, very lethal front 4. He'd start getting far more goals and assists, both would be in the 20's i reckon.

My thoughts as well. He might replace him in the future, but right now/summer? Doubt it.

18 months he may well move on.

Barca tried that with Fabregas a few years ago and ended up having to move other players around to accommodate him. Safe to say it was a disaster.

I personally wouldn't compare the two, Coutinho is a far more dynamic person. He makes Liverpool and Brazil tick, i don't think he'll leave yet but Barca will surely be eyeing up a price for him, but he's worth far more to Liverpool than Barca at present.

Frank is right though. Even if we were to find someone who would take on all his wages it wouldn't be worth the shortcoming in backups it would leave us with. Especially if it ended up being the difference between top 4 and not.

I said assuming that they weren't going to play him. Obviously if they see him as a useful member of the squad, but if they don't then it's worth while. I said that. So if he won't play, or there's a youngster who'd be a reasonable replacement, then get rid. It's really not controversial.

ok - put it another way

He has played what....7 games under JM so far. What happens if the same /similar circumstances arise as one of those 7 in the next 4 months, and we have to put an inexperienced player on instead of Young (who can at least " do a job" in that position) because we took that 2m for a loan......and it potentially costs us 40- 50m for missing out on CL next season

(20m performance & 30m market pool roughly - obviously depending on results)

That would be moronic

JM will not know for sure Young wont be needed until the last game is played - otherwise its a gamble. for such a small amount of money why risk it?

Young's experience is worth more than any loan money Utd could generate

I would take Coutinho now over Fabregas a few years ago - let alone Fabregas today who imo is far worse - but I take your point

It'd be if they think they have someone as good who could play in his place. it's a simple concept.

And the fact he's played some games doesn't mean he was needed/that there weren't other players who could have performed similarly on that match day... you can't say he played and therefore was essential. Lol at most of the games he appeared in, btw,

Given that he was chosen to play - JM obviously thought the only people better than him on that day were unavailable for some reason. Highly unlikely to change significantly in the next few months.

Fact is JM doesnt think there is anybody better with the same injuries that affected earlier in the season

Personally think (like always) you are just trying to create an argument for arguements sake

This is such a stupid discussion. Sure if we had all these magical world class replacements then we could send Young out on loan but we don't. Any reserve players that could have been used are out on loan.

PSG were also originally heavily linked to Depay from what I recall.

Sounds like Utd lost about £10m in straight transfer fees - I believe Utd paid £26.3m originally, but could make upto £5m back in add-ons

I wanted him to be loaned not sold, he'll be a good player in the future.

Haha, Moyes really trying to tank Sunderland now. Anichebe, just an awful player, 3 goals, an entire season of wages and out for the next 10 weeks so no use to them.

Now he's going after Gibson, with 5 league starts and about the same in subs in the past 3.5 seasons. 29, awful injury record that has no chance of getting better and he's going to turn around Sunderland's season? If he plays 5 of the remaining games I'd be surprised and presuming they go down, what are the chances he'll be fit enough to contribute to a promotion campaign? ALso going after Oviedo, less injury prone than Gibson but you know, not much.

The guy has such a small time mentality, where he'll buy a player he knows even if he's clearly not good enough or fit enough, rather than actually take a risk.

Would really like for someone to stump up the £15m for Scott Hogan so we can bring other players in. We can barely field a full first team side on match days without using kids from the B team. Can't really afford much quality until we sell Hogan though.

He's just trying to turn Sunderland into his Everton.
Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for Sunderland :D
