January Transfer Window 2016/17 - Rumours & Signings

Rashford just hasn't been good enough this year, either centrally or out wide. Let's face it when he's played wide it's still a very 'striker' role because Ibrahimovic drops deep and lets people run off him. Rashford should be really good at that role, he's just been very underwhelming so far this season. Martial had a bad start but he's been better lately, it just doesn't help when he plays a game, is dropped for 2 or 3 and then plays again. He needs a good run. Look how much it's helped people like Herrera this season to be playing consistently.

I think we need another defender. Especially with Bailly going to Acon, we're lucky Jones has managed to play without injuring himself.

lol @ last bit

Jones & Rojo, who would have thought..

It's funny Rashford and Martial were two of the best players last season, but this season it's a different matter as we're playing collectively.

Martial up front is obviously a viable option, that way we could at least have Mata on the wing with Mkhitaryan on the other.

It's being 'reported' that James Rodriguez applied for a UK Visa today. Chelsea and PSG are the two most recent rumours, could be Chelsea spending their Oscar money.

Definitely an upgrade an Oscar but i dont perticularly rate him myself. He's a good player and all that but he's not a worldy.

Surely Chelsea are going to use that Oscar money and put it on a striker?

Im really not sure he would be that much of an upgrade to be honest, dont get me wrong Willian is clearly better than Oscar, but Im just not that keen on JR at all - wouldnt want to touch him at Utd at all (and also not sure where he would fit in that would make it a better option than Real ).

Way overpriced if Real expect majority of their money back

Hope never to have to see Mata on the wing again - just a complete waste out there majority of the time. Martial / Mkhi / Lingard can cover the wings (if Mou will let them of course)

With two pacey players up front we can sacrifice, I'd rather see him on the wing than on the bench.

Draxler to PSG is supposedly done. Good player but i reckon Liverpool have dodged a bullet there, if they were truthfully in for him that is.

Utd should try and sell Depay to China - reckon we could get at least £50m for him :D

Sounds like Schneiderlin deal to Everton is practically done - Utd seemingly insisting on £24m fee and player wanting the £115k/week he currently gets (which I understand is way over anything Everton are currently paying)

Will believe it when its announced but will be a good level for him, sad that it never worked out at OT but he deserves/needs to play

How often does Mou play with two pacey players upfront?

Surprised by oscar being sold off, thought he was pretty decent when he played for Chelsea. But gotta hand it to Chelsea getting that amount for him, £60mill isn't too bad for a player they paid £30 oddmill for a few yrs back.

Not sure if we will be buying anyone although I heard we are after an LB. probably get some u known player if we do spend in Jan.

How on earth Chelsea are getting £60m for Oscar is beyond me. £50m for Luiz was an utter joke but this is even more ridiculous.

They gotta pay over the odds to attract him though, i suppose thats the biggest factor in the high figures.

They've got to pay him over the odds but why the transfer fee? Chelsea don't care where he goes and had they received an offer for the £30m odd they paid for him they'd have sold.

I suspect that it's all agent driven and the agents involved will be taking a big slice of that £60m.

Yea, agents fee's are mad atm, wouldn't be surprised if a large wedge is that. I'm not sure Chelsea would have sold for 30m though, i still think he's a decent player.

If not £30m they'd have sold for considerably less than £60m - he's not wanted after all.

And I don't think it's the same as general agents fees either where the agent doesn't do a great deal. Agents are brokering these deals from start to finish. These clubs aren't targetting specific players and making offers to their club - they don't care who they get, they just want high profile players and they need agents to get them. There's no point them making offers to clubs without knowing whether the player wants to join so they're going to agents and these agents know how desperate they are so have them over a barrel. Oscar's agent has probably gone to Chelsea and said we can get £60m for Oscar but I want £x of that for myself or the deal doesn't happen.

This sounds as if its a completely illegal approach/ tapping up - I'm not saying it hasn't happened previously, but its still clearly wrong surely?

I don't know which is worse - a selling club putting in a previous contract extension how much the players agent will get on a sale , or the way you describe it - both as bad as each other for different reasons.

Maybe it ends up being the same either way, but surely it should be up to the buying club how much they are willing to pay the agent - not the selling club (who really don't give a **** as the transfer fee will be increased by that % anyway)

It certainly takes one level of negotiations out of the deal (ie buying club with the agent fee which is already set) - not to mention the buying club going through the agent /player first rather than the players club.

Its also a very slippery slope, its one thing if the above approaches happen for a player who isn't getting minutes like Oscar or Schneiderlin for example, but what about the likes of Hazard /Greizmann or whoever else who is playing 90 every week.
