January Transfer Window 2017/18

They've been regulated before, it makes no difference. While there's this much money in the game there will always be greedy individuals coming up with a way of getting a cut of it. The issue is the players that leave everything to their agent and have no idea what's actually being negotiated and it's nothing new either.

I can remember from 5+ years back when an agent was interviewed on SSN and was trying to defend agents and the payments they received - this agent was directly asked whether a player ultimately has the final say on whether he moves to a club that may not be willing to pay the agent what he wants and the agent as good as said that if the buying club isn't prepared to meet his demands then the player won't ever find out the offer has been made.

Fwiw, players do need agents. There's so much money involved and highly complex contracts being dished out, they need people that can advise them properly and negotiation on their behalf. Players should be keeping an eye on what's going on though.

Of course they are needed, nobody denying that. Just the fees involved are ridiculous, its almost extortion.

Raiola is holding everything up. He will be demanding large fees from both Man Utd and Arsenal. Everything else has been agreed by all accounts, the players are ready to move. Mkhitaryan has reportedly said his goodbyes. I thought Klopp answered the question about it well today, didn't take the bait and said what everyone else is thinking.

They don’t necessarily need agents who get a direct proportion of the fee/wages/whatever, though. Obviously the argument is that if they get x% then they’re incentivised to get the vest deal they can, but I’m not convinced any of the parties involved got enough value out of the Pogba deal to justify the agent’s cut.
Sometime back there was an agent on The Anfield Wrap podcast - he was an agent for a few bottom end PL players and Championship players. He said that UK agents typically earned 5% of their clients total pay (wages, bonus's, signing on fees etc), with this being paid by the player. IIRC he said in Spain and other European countries agents get paid closer to 10%. This kind of arrangement makes perfect sense - these players tend not to be the most in demand with multiple clubs fighting over them and it gives the agent an incentive to get the best possible deal for their client. The problem comes, as we're seeing with Raiola, with the players that are in demand - why settle for 5-10% of your players wage when you've got a club over a barrel? Why not get paid both ends?

You can bring in legislation that outlaws clubs paying agents but they'll find ways around it. As long as you've got agents with so much control over their players and clubs so desperate to sign these players then agents will find ways to get paid.

Meh I wouldn’t put any faith in the DM for transfer news lol.

So seeing as the transfer hasn’t happened, I wonder if Wenger will play Sanchez on the weekend??
Mhiki not in united squad for tomorrow.wouldnt have thought sanchez will play due to risk of injury.will be interesting to see though

No way will Sanchez play tomorrow. Just impossible in light of the current situation. He would be risking a move ending injury, his team mates don't want him playing with them any more and the fans would turn against him. Our fans can be vicious to players they deem as turncoats. Sanchez got enough grief when he played during the summer Man City speculation. He would be ripped to shreds if he played tomorrow.

Wenger saying that Sanchez may be in the squad for the game against Crystal Palace.

Will be hilarious if he does play him and he gets injured :p

Never want a player to get injured but it would be very interesting should it happen, got a feeling Sanchez will get up with the squits tomorrow morning, he'd be crazy to play as life does have a way of kicking you in the spuds.

If this transfer is going to happen, I would have prefered it done so he could actually play tomorrow!
How often does a club make such a big signing and throw them straight into the side after 1 or maybe 2 training sessions? Given how much emphasis Mourinho puts on tactics and such, I can't imagine you'd have seen him without at least 3-4 training sessions.

True, I wasn’t being serious with my post about him playing.

There are far too many factors involved that would make it impossible for him to ever play for us again. Fans for a start would heckle him like crazy. Plus my personal feeling is that I never ever want to see him play in an arsenal shirt again after all the antics he has done this season.

Chelsea interest in Crouch on the beeb, apparently they wanted Carroll but he's just injured himself again.

iirc I was listening to the Guardian football podcast and Chelsea put the most crosses into the box so it might not be the most ridiculous signing.

Have you seen how boring we are, need that latin flair! :P

What has Sanchez done wrong? Only player for Arsenal that seems to give a **** when things aren’t going well.

Must say I’m worried what Sanchez’ ridiculous wages will do to the dressing room with some of the bigger players. I know they can spin it by claiming a lack of transfer fee with Mkhi supposedly being the fee, but that’s still going to rub some of the egos up the wrong way

He doesn’t really, it’s all about him and him only. He doesn’t care about Arsenal, if he did then he would have signed a new contract to prove that.

But in no way does he give a **** about Arsenal.
