January Transfer Window 2017/18

If we're letting Sturridge go and have no attacking replacement coming in then we're nuts.

Its negligent. As they said on TAW "if youre one nil down in the CL and you need a goal, who you choosing? Ings, Solanke or Sturridge"

Its an absolute no brainer and to loan him for 1.5 mil benefits the player, West Brom but not us.

Regarding the first point, I'm not sure I'd bring Sturridge on any more. The guy is shot to bits and can no longer run but he was a better option than none at all.

We've seen over the last couple of months that Klopp sees Ox more as a midfielder than an attacker and Lallana being injured again means he's going to have less flexibility to play him anywhere but in midfield in the immediate future. That leaves us with just 5 forwards for 3 positions which is far too short before you take into account that 1 is a kid and the other's barely kicked a ball in 2 years.

Specifically on Sturridge leaving though. It's always been a case of when not if. It's been clear since day 1 that he doens't fit into Klopp's plans but his fitness record and wages have prevented him leaving. Had we not been so short in attack ourself then I'd have welcomed getting any sort of loan fee for him and his wages off the book.

Is the reality not that we have Mane, Salah, Ox, Lallana, Gini, and at a stretch Milner who can all play on the wings, and therefore if Bobby gets injured Klopp will play Mane or Salah up front over Ings, bringing one of the others in to replace them on the flanks? If so, we've really got 4 "strikers" plus Solanke.

I'm more worried about how to replace Coutinho's ability to create something out of nothing than I am about replacing Sturridge on the bench.

Before we get into more detail, Lallana's started 1 game all season and is now injured again and Wijnaldum has played as a CB more times than a member of our front 3 in the entire time he's been with us. Even still, you can't look at it this way. In Henderson, Can, Milner, Wijnaldum, Ox and Lallana we have 6 players for our 3 midfield positions - that would be just about ok if 2 of the 6 hadn't had terrible injury records over the last couple of years. You cannot rely on Ox or Wijnaldum to cover the front 3 when we're an injury away from being down to our bare bones in midfield.

Even if everybody was fit and available, think about what you're suggesting. Firmino gets injured so you move Salah central - as good as Salah's been he's not as good a centre forward as Firmino. Ox moves into Salah's role - he can do a job there but not as good as Salah. Milner comes in for Ox - he can do a job again but we'll be lacking an attacking threat from midfield. One injury results in us downgrading 3 positions because we don't have another decent attacker to come into the side.

As I've said several times, I'm not overly fussed about us signing a top class centre forward but we need to sign another quality attacker so if you are having to move Salah central at least you've got a similar quality player coming into the side in his place.

So the PEA deal is agreed, but still not actually completed.

Only Arsenal could make such a seemingly straightforward transfer drag out so long
It’s down to Dortmund, they will not let Auba go until they get a replacement in. How is that Arsenal’s fault?? Even if we gave them £60mill from the get go, they would still delay it till they got a replacement for Auba.

And honestly after reading how Dortmund ****** over Auba, promised to sell him to Real and didnt. It wouldn’t surprise me if they delayed it so that it’s too late for us to sign him.

Given that Aubameyang is cup tied for the Europa league, can we really risk losing Giroud? Seems like it would leave us utterly ****** if Lacazette were to pick up an injury.

Is Giroud going to Chelski on a loan or permanent basis??

If he does go, he will be a big miss for us especially as a super sub. I know I’m not his biggest fan but we found a use for him as a super sub.

God help us if Lacazette gets injured long term which will invariably happen no doubt.

Why the **** are we selling or giving our players to rivals?? I don’t understand it, has Wenger lost his mind?? Stupid question to ask seeing as he has lost his mind years ago lol.

Look if Dortmund don’t want to sell Auba to us then screw them, let them deal with a player who doesn’t want to play for them.

We don’t need strikers, we need some decent defenders and a DM more importantly.

I have to agree it doesn't make sense selling to rivals. and also buying a player then releasing another that's not strengthening the depth of your squad . It's like Liverpools transfer window selling and loaning but not replacing. Very strange.

According to Ornstein on twitter:

Merry-go-round: Giroud was lined up to replace Aubameyang at Dortmund then got offer from Chelsea & was keen, so Dortmund turned to Batshuayi. But Chelsea baulked at Giroud fee so discussed Batshuayi/Llorente swap with Spurs, which nobody agreed on.

He might be shot but hes a better option then Solanke and Ings. One who hasnt ever scored in the Premiership and the other who hasnt for two years albeit because his knees blew up.

Sturridge has contributed to 6 goals this season. 3 goals and 3 assists in 514 minutes, thats one a game. Ings is at 0 and Solanke has one assist in nearly 6 appearances.

I agree if we werent short this suits everyone but right now this is just daft. Its a money saving exercise.
