January Transfer Window 21/22

Who knows re Martinelli's contract but if Arsenal miss out on the CL again then they're vulnerable to big CL clubs coming after their best players. Whatever Arsenal offer them, it won't be as much as what Liverpool (or whoever) could or would offer them + the CL lure.

Arsenal can offer as much money as Liverpool. Your top earner doesn’t get close to ours.

As of our last sets of accounts Arsenal's wagebill was £225m, Liverpool's was £326m. We pay far more in wages than Arsenal.
Maybe as a group, but not individually. A lot of our players like Saka and ESR earn much less because of their age and they’re youth products. That will change eventually.

Plus your squad is massive compared to ours.

Rob our wagebill is very nearly 50% greater than Arsenal's, you having a few young players on £30k per week doesn't bridge that £100m+ gap. It's not as if Liverpool's squad doesn't include players like Jones and Elliott at similar stages of their career either.

I've mentioned it numerous times over the past 18 months, Liverpool have done very well to sell this story that their top earners earn £4.50 per week + a packet of crisps but it's complete *******s. Only PSG and Barca's (pre Messi departure) wage bill's are notably bigger than ours.

How many players are in your squad?

These wage bills include every single senior player, academy player, staff and general employee of the club. Broadly speaking Liverpool and Arsenal will have similar numbers in all categories.
Ok, we’ll I think it’s a kind of moot point. Fact is, if a player wants to stay, both clubs can offer them the salary they want, with the possible exception of Mo Salah.

Maybe Liverpool dont want to do an Arsenal with Salah and not offer him silly money towards the back end of his career only for him to fall off a cliff...we also dont know what the issue is lmao.

It's not really a moot point Rob. What Arsenal are capable of spending on wages is far less than the leading clubs in Europe. If Arsenal decided to put all their eggs in one basket to match an offer from Liverpool (for example), it would impact what they could spend elsewhere. It's like saying Palace could pay somebody £250k per week - they could but it would eat up a massive chunk of their budget.

You might not want to hear it or accept it but there's a very big gap that's opened up between Arsenal (and Spurs) and the top 4 from a financial point of view and failure to make the CL again is only going to see that grow, further impacting Arsenal's ability to compete.

This is all surmising that we won’t be in the CL within the next 3 years. I think we could get there in that time.

It's not really Rob. It's the reality of where Arsenal are today. Your failure to qualify for Europe at all will result in your turnover being circa £200m less than Liverpool, City's and Utd's and not much less behind Chelsea's. There's a big correlation between wages and league position and trying to break into the top 4 while spending £100m+ less won't be easy.

Obviously it's not impossible but Arsenal are going to need a spell of being very clever in the transfer market and getting maximum value for what they spend or rely on 1 or more of those other sides to have terrible seasons to make the CL and then you're going to need much of the same for a further few seasons to consolidate that position.
