Japanese Grand Prix 2010, Suzuka - Race 16/19

dont think he has a choice, he has to go for it, the slower of the 3 cars and needs a win. what else can he do.

mclaren mechanics did an amazing job to rebuild one side of the car in a few hours.

Its not the slower of the 3 cars, both cars were faster than alonso and one faster than massa. Over the season the mclaren has been more consistent at more circuits than Ferrari. Its rare the Mclaren has been the 3rd best car on a weekend and profitted the most for Red Bull slip ups.

I agree, he's got no other choice but to push. However, if he pushes too hard he will balls it up again like he has in P1.

Getting some points is better than no points at all. If he'd finished in the position that he was in when he went off in the last two races he'd still be right up there. I'm just not sure if he's got the patience to manage it.

I almost think he would prefer to go out in a blaze of glory in all four of the last races and epically lose than play the sensible game and potentially lose.

I really hope I'm proved wrong though.

Looks like the Red Bulls topped P2 also. Looking like a RBR front row.

Yep.

Of course, Vettel is going to have to let Webber through.

I'm not quite sure about that.

I strongly believe the Vettel will finish ahead of Webber in this year's title race and that RBR will back their No.1 driver, no matter what (which is what should happen).

If RBR get a 1-2 in this race, we shall get our answer, as to whether or not RBR are now backing Webber or not.

Alonso is a **** but it's a bit sad that everyone constantly wants him to blow up to stop him winning.

I agree.

There are sportsmen/teams/drivers etc who I don't like, but I wouldn't wish bad on them.

Instead I would get behind an opposing sportsman/team/driver who can hopefully beat the guy I don't like.

I'm not a fan of Webber and don't think its right that somebody of his average ability should win the WDC, however, if he wins it, fair play to him. He was in the right car, at the right time and won. I certainly don't wish for him to crash out or anything similar.

I would much rather Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel or Button won this year's title as they are in a class above Webber.

i want alonso to quali 5th ish then go on to lead the race then maybe with 5 laps top go his engine go. so he loses this one and has take a penalty next race.

i also want vettel, webber and massas engines to go also :)

If I supported a driver of the chasing few I'd want them to beat Alonso on pace not because of reliability issues. I want them to prove who was faster on the track.

If Alonso beats JB from here til the last race and then blows up with 6 feet to go and JB won the title, for me it would be hollow. I'd know the faster driver lost the title because of something outside of his control.

I don't mind any of them winning it apart from Vettel but thats because he thrown away the best car for 2 years. He's faster than webber but webber has just about maximised he's opportunity.

what about the effort of finishing second if alonso were to lose it?

button won his championship with a vastly superior car then did nothing in the 2nd half of the season, does that make his championship hollow since he was not the fastest man.

f1 isnt just about being the fastest as red bull have proved.

I can see what you mean and personally I don't mind Alonso either way - just like to see some good racing. You could argue that if what you said did happen, Ferrari were running their engines too high which meant they would have been a bit quicker, etc.

In general, the Brits like underdogs and losers. Alonso is the best F1 has to offer and as such you can expect many Brits to support everyone except for him.

MSc suffered similarly when he was at his peak.

 British people are likely to dislike alonso because he races for ferrari and didn't show much class when racing for mclaren. People disliked MSc because he also raced for ferrari and because most of the championships he won were very dull because the field was so uncompetitive. I don't know where you get the idea that "brits like underdogs and losers".

Just watching FP1 on iPlayer and I'm not quite sure I buy what the Japanse on Jenson Buttons helmet actually mean. Apparently its all about his triathlon team with Ichiban being the name or being number one. Rubbish tbh, EVERYONE knows that Ichiban is actually lipstick for men :D

People didn't dislike MSc because he drove for ferrari, they disliked him because he is german, he was ruthless, not afraid to run his opponent off the road (add to that the fact that his opponent was british), that he had no personality, refused to talk to anyone except german media, and generally had no redeeming qualities.

Which is why a lot of people are commenting on the difference between 'then' MSc and 'now MSc

I dislike Alonso because he's an absolute plank. Spoilt brat who cries the second something doesn't go his way.

And he's certainly not the best F1 has to offer
