Jordan Peterson thread

Why? We're having a discussion in public about this, and I want to know what he thinks about something. Why is this somehow a complicated matter?

I didn't think it was that complicated, hence surprised at your seemingly snarky reply when someone else joined in the conversation on a public forum *shrug*

But I wasn't asking anyone else what they think, which is why I asked Lysander "what do you think...". If I wanted to know what other people thought about it, I wouldn't have worded it that way. My response to dLockers was to clarify that. Other people can respond of course, but that doesn't answer my question.

Calling people racist and right wing is about as meaningful as "your mum" jokes in the 2020s.
I wonder how he reconciles his Wikipedia cut and paste job with the likes Rogan, Dave Ruben, Blair White, Russell Brand, the Hodge twins (along with Peterson) etc all being labelled alt right. Its an utterly meaningless term that those that sit on the left throw at people with any sort of stance, be it political or social, that is slightly right of center.

Shhh! We're not allowed to give answers until Lysander has replied!
Yep, nailed it.

This was my point, and a copy paste from someone other than the person who used the term doesn't reveal what that person's understanding is. Alt-right is a term that is commonly used for white supremacist groups as well as those you've listed above. It's about as useful and accurate as calling Biden a communist.

You could go by Googles definition, that comes from the Oxford Languages:

(in the US) a right-wing ideological movement characterized by a rejection of mainstream politics and by the use of online media to disseminate provocative content, often expressing opposition to racial, religious, or gender equality.

No one I've seen branded alt-right rejects mainstream politics, because last time I looked centrist and conservative parties still represent part of the mainstream.. And I can't think of anyone expressing opposition to equality, with the worse I've seen a discussion on equality of outcome vs equality of opportunity, and maybe an opinion on what 'gender' represents..

So when people use this inappropriately it seems to be that they think their far left views are 'all of mainstream politics' and that anyone questioning their definition of equality must be in opposition and so why they often like to lump them with true alt-right white supremecists (or try to make them guilty through assocation by branding them the darling of the alt-right).

can you define far left?

Sure

Far-Left: A left wing ideology characterised by a rejection of mainstream politics and by the use of online media to disseminate provocative content, often expressing opposition to racial, religous, or gender equality.

:p Not exactlly hard is it.

Even though you were quoted and asked a question, you're supposed to let someone else reply and privately message the poster your answer.

I think I'm getting the hang of this now.
