Junior doctor strike: Union's pay demands unrealistic, says Steve Barclay

How much will a Junior Doctor be worth in the next 10 years when AI starts taking over ?

The AI model, known as Med-PaLM 2 (Pathways Language Model), consistently performed at an "expert" physician level on the sample of USMLE-style practice questions, reported Alan Karthikesalingam, MD, PhD, a surgeon-scientist who leads the healthcare machine learning research group at Google Health in London, and co-authors.

Will we look at the pay now that they're striking over and think, that was a good wage compared to what they get in 10 years as their expertise becomes less of a need thanks to AI taking over ?

I don't know enough to say whether what they're paid now is enough or too little or slightly little, like others I'm probably out of touch with what is a good wage these days, what's a comparable field to compare them against when you factor in education needed etc ?

You are stuck 20 to 40 years ago with no clue on the current realities of the economy. Please just admit you were wrong.

I know people of less than 10 years ago that were hangers on in the NHS because they didn't want to loose their pension perks by leaving and finding a real job in the private sector, because they had a cushy number where they were anything but over worked.

This is very short sighted... not paying them they would leave to other countries, similar to what happened in the past, doctors used to came in UK from various parts - now doctors are migrating to other places - the easier is Australia/ Canada/ NZ.
So it may in the end kill what is left of the population if the consultants of tomorrow have uprooted somewhere else

And yet many of them choose to strike instead of leaving.

give them a choice...... government pays for their fees (so long as they pass) but on the condition that they give X number of years to NHS after qualifying..... if they leave before their time served is up they have to pay a percentage back

Here is an example where tax money being diverted.
This is their leadership lol.

Haha, useless people given golden doors and they still mess it up.

I really do love people when they provide skills like A.I and have no clue.

I know someone who says something but can’t back it up with facts.

“A friend of a friend told me that immigrants get a free house, car and Rolex just for not being white, you couldn’t make it up!!”

Short memories some people have on this forum.

Don't attack people for knowing their worth while ignoring the billions squandered in dodgy contracts or random PM musical chairs.

Next pandemic don't expect people to face death every day whilst others kickback on furlough.

The free house is almost right, can't guarantee it will be a house but they're not going to living on the streets if their asylum application is approved, the local authority will find them a home. That right there is money that should be spent on public services rather than accepting illegal / economic migrants to have the opportunity to claim asylum.

The process typically involves the council reaching out to a private landlord from their list of approved landlords.
The private landlord then purchases a home outside of London and leases it to the council for a certain number of years, during which time the council places asylum seekers in that home.

This expands the private landlord's housing portfolio, it comes at a cost to the taxpayer. Public funds are used to cover the costs of leasing these properties (can be expensive) poor t use of tax payer money.
Private landlords may take advantage of the system and provide substandard housing to asylum seekers, council pick up the repair bill.
Landlord now has the option to own the property or sell it ( keep the capital gains)if the contract is not renewed, they always renew.

btw council is guarantor for the landlord with the bank in most cases.

Brown envelopes.

This is how it was pitch to me by someone I have known for almost 2 years.

The Home Office admitted that there is no evidence to claim large number of economic migrants.

Plus, they could help solve the boats and hotel situations if they wanted to. Process quickly, allow asylum applications outside the UK. Anybody who doesn't have a right to be here can go.

Or you could fall into their trap and blame foreigners for it all.

Older Drs showing newer Drs they need to fight for what they are worth.

The British public do not deserve health care for what they have voted in and done to the NHS. Let them die.

That simply means the Home Office is using the wrong definition of all those pitching up on our shores in small boats then!

well that would be a solution and some may accept it , currently the average debt is 80-100k after 5 years of medical school
