Junior doctor strike: Union's pay demands unrealistic, says Steve Barclay

To be honest in my adult life I can probably count on one hand how many times I’ve been to see the doctor. I don’t begrudge them a payrise though.

Well if more people avoided unnecessary or avoidable interactions with the health service there would be more money to go around.

I just hope that when the time comes that I may need them they haven’t all been driven away because the NHS has been run into the ground.

If you really want to support the NHS (and can afford it) get private medical / dentist IMO.

I would much rather support the NHS by reducing my own personal demand and pay extra for a better private service than just get taxed more and more to prop up maxed out services.

It’s not something I’ve looked into but neither me or my misses are big earners, so while we are certainly not living a life of poverty, we aren’t rolling in money either.

My conscience is clear in regards to my demands on the economy.

No they need a rebrand - I'd imagine if you said junior doctor to most people they would equate it to medical student.

Do you think that 'junior doctor' is a good description or could it be better?
isn't a junior doctor with x years experience what it says on the tin.... a qualified doctor but only with x years experience so considered junior.

so equivalent to a PhD graduate with 2 years under their belt.

I am not qualified to comment what a newly qualified doc should be paid but personally I would lean to paying their student fees assuming they qualify but then tying them to the NHS for an agreen number of years (they buy out their contract if they choose to leave).

but then I hate debt so maybe I am biased
most say not to consider student debts as a debt but I don't like owing anyone anything. I would personally take a lower salary for 5 years (esp if 30k ignoring london) if it meant no debts

Not quite - as above it can be someone who is nearly at consultant level but the use of the word 'junior' in a medical setting doesn't really instill much confidence, as you say it sounds like someone just out of medical school.
