Just allow club talk within threads already

See the thing is, it got taken off topic because he posted that, it stayed off topic because you and others rose to the bait, and always do (I have been guilty myself but I'm trying not to) Just let him talk to no-one, I assume most people have him on ignore anyway.

I wasn't even on here tonight when the thread got locked. You were though!! :p

The problem, as I see it isn't that you cannot talk about matters tangenital to the original topic to a bit, but where people talk about matters tangenital to the original topic to the exclusion of pretty much anything else. As I said take a look over the transfers thread and the vast majority of posts on the last page were about one team and were straying quite significantly from being about transfers.

I appreciate that there may be more Man Utd fans on here than for any other team or, at least, that they may be more vocal but if the discussions are going to be almost exclusively about one club and everything around it then it looks like an attempt to make a club thread by the back door so to speak. That's something that is a problem when it happens for any club, it's not specific to Man Utd fans but they are a good example because of numbers.

Then would the answer not be to allow them to discuss it in their own thread?

So what you're saying is we need to make up new about other clubs? Or make people support certain clubs?

I mean in the end if the only news people want to discuss is United news today and United fans are the majority....then the last few pages are going to be mostly United stuff.

Look back at the last window and see how many United posts there were compared to Arsenal ones at the end of the thread. It was all Arsenal....because United had finished their business and Wenger was panic buying. The thread is dictated by the news, sometimes when a big story breaks it will dominate for a while.

There are no generic club threads allowed here so it's not going to become an exception just because people don't accept the rules and keep trying to make such threads or derail other existing threads into becoming generic club threads.

If there are specific issues then you can make a thread but it is not intended that posters should simply use such threads for anything and everything related to a club because, again, that breaks the prohibition on generic club threads.

Right.

Then what if you want to discuss a more broader topic, or the topic includes several aspects from the club?

It's either stifling discussion on topics people want to talk about or forcing them to talk about something that they might not want to surely?

Would it not be easier to have club threads, the weekend thread and the transfer thread? Then if things do start to go all 'clubby' just move the discussion to the club thread?

No, what I'm saying is that it would be nice if people kept vaguely to the topic at hand. I understand that sometimes matters tangenital to the original topic can be relevant but when it appears that every post is off-topic and about a specific club then it is a problem.

Right.

I understand that you think we need club threads, you've made that perfectly clear, but when we've had club threads before they haven't gone well so they're unlikely to get reintroduced.
