The climates isn't going to 'collapse' it's changing, as it always has done, just at a rapid rate which means some ecosystems will struggle to adapt and more animal species will die out.
JSO and their ilk fail to address the other side of the equation either, namely that without our fossil fuel intensive economies billions of peole stand to starve to death or be killed in the chaos that will ensue.
A far more pressing problem is that the resources are very finite and so our options,
in the next century, are work out how to to replace them or face a civilisational collapse anyway.

We are in the middle of one right now since the Younger Dryas period about 12,000 years ago when there was rapid change in the global climate, were fossil fuels to blame for that, too? The evidential records are engraved in the rock layers and ice sheets of the planet. Human existence would not be halting climate change, but yes it can contribute to it, just the same way cows contribute large amounts of methane to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. There are many factors, and just disrupting one isn't going to change the end result, because the climate will change regardless of what orange paint is thrown over what monument. These people are too dumb to understand these things though.

Because western socities aren't actually going to choose to 'stop oil' because any group of people that actually tried to implement such a plan would quickly, and likely very violently, find themselves removed from any position of power.

While I'd like to think it was high end trolling I suspect it's more a case of clueless and out of touch idiocy, they might be generating publicity but it's negative to the point the public at large absolutely do not support them. Unless they're trying to force the government to arrest/ban them or acquiesce rather than imprison Lord Fauntleroy's second niece I'm not convinced.

Yep, we talked about them in work.
Not about what they're fighting for but how much they disgust us and how we could use their bodies to power the local grid.
And as much as you condemn them, you fuel them. Remember, they don’t know who you are, but you do them, and so do millions of others, if just a few of those millions look into the issue and realise the same conclusion JSO have come to, they have successfully recruited to their cause.
Meanwhile, you’ll do nothing.
Don't buy that as being net productive - they are doing more damage to the cause overall and the fringe people that might look into the issue will have an insignificant effect at best. Most people are already aware of the situation with the climate.
No one is really doing anything which will have significant impact, much of what is going on politically is being seen to do something and won't have any meaningful impact on the scale of things, the efforts at individual level might help some to sleep better at night but collectively without a fundamental change of the system are a drop in the ocean compared to the scale of the challenge.
I'm all for leaving the place better than we found it and being responsible in our actions, but it will take more than that.

Also, it can't be only cornstarch because cornstarch isn't naturally bright orange. So there was something else mixed with it. Probably an oil-based dye.
JSO don't give a damn how much environmental damage they cause. If they got their way, civilisation would collapse and (in addition to causing the deaths of billions of people) that would cause immense environmental damage.
