"Just stop oil"

You can't just join an environmental debate and make sensible suggestions that any energy transition is going to require fossil fuels to make. That kind of practical well thought out idea has no place in modern feelings based doomsday cult politics. You should be ashamed.
What?

Go read what their demands are then wind your neck in.

Unless this is satire? In which case my detector has failed me.

The thing is (and again i do not support road blocking etc) but people have been campaigning mostly politely for decades and our governments have done naff all.. I would personally much rather they all descended on number 10 and parliament however and through soup at their windows and chained to lamposts there......... if they REALLY do not care about getting arrested then that would surely get the same media attention and it would annoy those who CAN make a difference. (it also would not last as long... i doubt the coppers would stand around doing nothing then.... but their point would be made)

If they block the M25 next month and cause me to miss my Christmas flight to Canada then they might find out that they never need to worry about the use of oil again. Anyone who stops me getting to Canada is going to get a sharp shock from my arrival on the scene.

lol. Of course they are. Go put your Willy back in your pants, no one needs to see you waving it around.

Did you just gender assign me? :p

I merely mean that if they are sat in front of me, I will push them out of the way with my car, in much the same way that I've seen some other people doing. I'm not saying that I will run at them with an AK-47 and shoot them , their families and their children Rambo style

Book a night in a Prestige Suite in the Sofitel the night before, you won't regret it.

that is fine if you can afford it............ but those of us feeling the pinch may not be able to afford add an extra day or the hotel bill to allow for people deliberately blockign the road.

note i know you are just making helpful suggestions and my angst is not aimed at you..... i need to get to spain in a few weeks (i know carbon footprint etc)... as it is actually taking bagage is adding over 200% to the cost of my flight. i cant afford a hotel visit as well. (not to mention my wife will have my balls if i shirk out of child care for an extra day ;) )

in truth I don't think anyone wants to run someone over (not to mention damage to their car).

but I think a 40mph speed limit until the police are in position then a quick closure and recovery with tazers if need be would be acceptable in my book.

(any injury to the protesters is on them, any injury to the officers would also be on the protesters )

they have to do something because the protestors can carry on with this indefinitely ....... they clearly are not concerned about any punishment , and it is simply not practical to continually let roads grind to a halt for hrs at a time for nothing.

Police need to get better and have more powers for dealing with this kind of thing (NB I'm not a fan of the policing bill though).

If they won't come down when asked then no nonsense - get a big inflatable mat under the sign, then just send some big guys in body armour up there to throw them down.

Alternatively if they won't come down when asked then securely handcuff them in place so they can't move or drop anything on the road, wrap them in canvas so no one can see them, then reopen to traffic. They can stay there until they feel like coming down nicely or wait until the evening when they'll be manhandled down.

Fines should reflect the level of disruption caused too - I think estimated costs from shutting motorways can reach hundreds of thousands / millions of pounds an hour, so there should be much higher fines that reflect that.

Well I'd ignore them too but if one of the idiots falls off and lands on your car you're going to be annoyed.
Not sure how causing so much disruption to normal people just trying to get on with their lives is 'getting the public on side' tbh.

I’ll take my chances. Even better if they’d get locked up so they aren’t able/inclined to do this again. They’ll soon be crying real tears after a few weeks in prison.

It’s not, it alienates a huge number of people, even those who are sympathetic to their cause. I support the idea, but not in the way proposed nor the actions of this bunch of attention seekers. I’m also not an anarchist, so I vote instead.

And thats the problem, whilst the reason might be sensible they are going about it all wrong. Whomever it is who is running their strategic plans needs to go because they are making a right mess of it. In order to increase the chance for change they need as many voters as possible to be behind their message, thats how to apply weight on a government, what they are doing though is the exact opposite, they are turning voters against them and by proxy their message. They are literally undermining their own campaign. They probably need to also stop banging on about wealth and targetting wealth because it just makes it seem like all of this stems more from a jealousy of people with money than the climate.

I would interested to see if this protestor (alleged musician)

Has travelled to/from festivals this year
Been in holiday abroad this year.

Both unnecessary.
