***kickstarter***

Anyone funded anything recently?

Need a smaller wallet for night out etc and at around £10 a wallet, what's not to like.

Will update when they are received.

Well the wallet turned up - what a joke. Pathetic quality, awful stitching, later than advertised and very very disappointing first backing on Kickstarter.

Looked nothing like the advertised product - lots of unhappy backers.

However another project I funded has been successful.

Got my Bruer last week. Loving it. Made 4 cold brews so far, ranging from bleh to yum, and I'm slowly working my way towards a reliable method.

Report back once you've used it a bit more, I would like one or something similar. Take the hassle out of cold brewing. any idea if it works with tea leafs as well?
Quite expensive at $100 inc shipping, then possible taxes on top.

I'm doing a brew a day at the moment. Just because I'm playing and having fun. It's about a 9 hour brew time though... Need to invest in some patience. ;)

Should work with tea. It's a fine mesh filter at the bottom and coffee grounds don't go through, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't.

For me it was $75 including shipping. Didn't get any additional taxes either. First for me. :D

From the few brews I've done, it seems to work very well with Finca Limoncillo Washed from Hasbean, but that's just me.

That looks cool… but I'm not sure on it. Put off by the issue of what happens when their database doesn't have the object I'm scanning in it.

One of the main real life uses I would use it for immediately is analysing engine oil (like all the american car owners do), but the page says that oil is not yet working and will be added later :(.

Maybe will get one when its matured a bit :).

So many uses for it, but if it relies on a database, how pointless is it.
Now if it told you the break down precisely, theres so many uses for it. Gardeners want a break down of nutrients in their soil.
People who care what's in their food, could get a break down etc.
They show it scanning a porting shake and going this much porting etc. But if it relies on a database surly it's just going to give figures for a generic porting shake. If it even works that well.

lol

Most 99p ebay micro USB charge cables can do that!!

All it's doing (with regards to faster charging) is pulling the DATA lines low, this can be achieved by simply shorting the USB DATA lines either on the USB cable or at the charger (most if not all AC chargers already do this so that fully wired MicroUSB DATA cables can charge beyond the 500mA USB2 standard)

Seems a bit of a con really, most the multimeter features can be done on the phone with an app!!

From what I can see, MyIDKey is finished and released? Danger Phoenix's one literally went down a drain?

No, from what I can gather, the company has posted some sort of update regarding their 'state of business' but only as an update on Kickstarter for backers to view at the moment.

Looking around suggests in addition to Kickstarter, they also secured nearly $2m in venture capital funding and the implication is they've somehow managed to blow it all and not be able to fulfill orders/backers.

This is an integral risk to crowdfunding. You are not purchasing an item. Seems most people on kickstarter don't understand this though.

It's the risk you take by funding rather than buying at full price. thankfully only had one bad experiment, with robo3d printer, but parts should be at post office for collection. Almost two years late and a lot of ignored emails. As it's only the printed parts, not sure I'll even build it, they taken so long probably just cheaper buying the xyz printer at $500 fully built.

And is exactly why I don't get everyone's fascination with it, given that a proper 'investor' would expect a significant return on their investment to mitigate this risk (ie. stake + more back / share of ownership etc.) a lot of people seem happy to invest in companies for sometimes large amounts of money often in return for nothing more than a single item of the product with nothing more back even if the company becomes monstrously profitable.

Brilliant for startup companies though - loads of investment and no shareholders to worry about :p

Well I mean worthwhile things have come from it though, so it can be a winwin. Companies really need to convince me to earn my money though, only backed two projects so far and I feel pretty safe with both of them. Elite: Dangerous and Project Eternity, both seem to be coming along nicely!
