Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

Just had my surgery at Optical Express Uxbridge with Manek Patel yesterday. Read a few good reviews about him before so felt confident.

Previous eye sight was -4 and -4.75 with between -1 and -2 astigmatism.

Immedietely after surgery I was led to a dark room. Vision as this point very cloudy. At home went to sleep for 4 hours. At 7pm had dinner, went to sleep at 9pm. On this day, I couldn't see car reg plates from a medium distance clearly.

Next day, CRYSTAL CLEAR vision, could see car plates from very far away! Had post-op checkup, vision is way better than 20/20. Could read smallest line on the very last chart!

Will see how it goes after a week as I've heard it can still change so early.

I have only the tiniest glow of halo, no startbursts at all, and the halo is visible only on bright white objects in the day, but its so small I have to look for the halo to see it. I couldn't be happier right now!

Had CustomVue Intralase Wavefront LASIK.

Right eye procedure went great. Left eye I actually drifted away from the flashing light and the machine stopped! I thought I've just messed this up completely. But they asked me to focus on it again and it continued. Felt really bad at this point 'cause I thought I have just spoiled the procedure for the left eye. But all is good, their eye tracking tech is great! It was the VISX machine.

Both eyes are far better than 20/20 day after treatment, hope it can stay this way. As a sufferer of very dry eyes with contacts I didn't expect the outcome to be this great. Very happy so far. Will update if anything changes...

awesome good news, yeah I was able to make out some charactors on the last line....

I had mine done 2 years ago and id say my eyes got settled down a bit but there just as good back then perhaps a little less.

Ive noticed with laser surgery, the bad points are your eyes can get tired a lot more quicker.... u will need to go to bed bit more quicker ;) I still get slight halos/rings around light sources ie lamps and car lights but its no major.

On a sunny or bright day your eye sight will always be a lot better, or even in a room with good lighting....

I still get halo effects on vcr clock/timers :(

Otherwise the fact is I dont need to wear silly plastic glasses anymore and all the above bad points are void from that alone.

best 2k I spent @ finchleys optimax :)

My friend has just had this done and he says he now gets glare in bright light, that worries me. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am considering having it done when I have more money.

It is different for every person, it will dissipate to a degree in time.

Remember you have just had your eyes cut apart and poked with lasers, they need time to heal and your brain needs to learn and a just to your new prescription.

Previously you would have had glasses to focus your eyes for you, now your eyes need to learn to do this on your own, it takes time.

Got an appointment booked with Julian Stevens at Moorfields Hospital, from reading around he seems very highly thought of and when the High Street places mess up they usually send patients in his direction so he must know what he is doing! I strongly believe it isn't the technology as much as it is the doctor who will get things right or wrong and I'd rather spend £2k more knowing my eyes are being looked after by one of the best surgeons. Out of the London options narrowed it down to him, Professor Dan Reinstein of London Vision Clinic & Prof Gartry of Moorfields. Doesn't seem to be much in it out of those three so chose Dr Stevens as found a lot of reviews and everyone happy with his service.

Day 4, quality of vision is still crisp very far away.

I have noticed only one problem so far starting (or noticed) on day 4. In bed, when it has been dark for a while, if I decide I want to switch on my phone and check the time, I can't focus on the screen at all. It's blurry, badly, and takes me about 20 seconds to fully come into focus. This is when the room is still dark and phone is lit up near my face, even from arm's length its a little blurry but a bit better. Nearer my face its very blurry for 20 seconds that I can't read anything on screen regardless of text size.

At the same time, if I look across the room through the dark, I can still see my monitor's standby LED sharply and my window blinds with some of that outside street light coming through is also crystal clear.

If I turn on the room light at this point and look at the phone screen, it is now crystal clear regardless of how close it is to my face.

Anyone else had nearby night-time focusing issues like this where it takes about 20 secs to focus on a phone? Does it get better overtime?

It appears the issue I had at night focusing is no more, probably just my eyes healing. All OK now!

I would say it took about 2 months for my eyes to fully heal after I had them done, they were very bloodshot and bruised. However my vision is just amazing!

Glad you guys got some great results. I came so close to getting this done at the start of the year then chickened out! I absolutely hate wearing glasses and contacts too. Just worried about the long term effects of surgery. I was thinking of having the combined one done at 40 where they make it so you can see near and far well, since most people get far sighted at 40.

Had my surgery done at Optical Express in Manchester City Center on Wednesday morning. I have to admit, once the anaesthetic faded I felt very uncomfortable in the sunlight, however it was a bright day. Vision blurry at this point.

Went home, slept for a few hours and woke up. Eyes still a little light sensitive but blurriness had mostly gone. The next day my vision was incredible, cant describe it. Can now read 2 lines below 20-20 and eyes getting less bruised and less tired every day.

Still got a lot of glare at night with headlights but I've been told that will subside as my eye heals. Honestly the best $$$ i've ever spent (£2100 @ 0% over 18 months for ref for Intralase LASIK Wavefront)

If you've not had it done, do it now :)

Does laser eye treatment improve your vision beyond your natural capability? Let me explain: I am short-sighted (-1.5 in both eyes) and wear contacts but in comparison to a few friends who don't have vision problems they can see with clarity text and people further away than I.

I had my contact lens checkup at Boots this morning as I thought I may need a stronger prescription but she said I had 20:20 vision for for what my eyes are capable of ?!?!??!

I was erring towards laser treatment (e.g. ultralase ultra elite - the very best from what I've read) but besides the cost benefit over time I'm put off by the fact that's basically going to make a correction to what I currently see through lenses, as if I have some crap eye genetics :( Is this true in anyone's experience here? :)

I was so nervous about getting it done but its been the best thing I ever done so far...

seriously getting a filling done is more painfull and longer.... whole eye op on both took 10 minutes id say :)

Cant belive they charge 2k for that though lol

20:20 is average good eye sight - its quite possible to be able to see better than this.

The reason I wont have laser treatment is that I have better than 20:20 vision with contacts / glasses and surgery is not likely to match this.

Think of the technology involved, would you prefer to pay less at the risk of it going wrong ?

Mine was 5k in total, still happy I didn't pay cheap for it as well.

Seriously considering this now: Filled my cash ISA for the year so anything I save between now and April 2013 is going into my 'laser eye surgery fund'.

I've been recommended the London Vision Clinic by a friend of my girlfriend who says their service is second to none.

£4,600 for both eyes, including pre surgery tests and aftercare, seems more expensive than some places but also seems they provide a high-quality service.

Anyone else had it done with them?

I really want this done at some point, but going to be so hard to save the money at the moment. Probably just put money away bit by bit for a few years and see how I go.

Had my consultaion yesterday and I'm booked in for the 7th Sept (Gulp!).

Having LASIK Intralase with Wavefront, was quoted £3770 for the privilege , but surprise, surprise they offered a discount of £1475.

Just want to get it over and done with now.

I had mine done at the Centre for Sight which was £2500 an eye, excellent service all round, especially since they had to deal with me who was blind as a bat pre op

So do I but I am just so sick and tired of glasses and contacts. I hate both which is why I want to get it done now but I suppose if you're happy with both options then stick to it.

I'm really anal when it comes to buying anything so when it came to this I did my research extensively and three names stood out for me. Dr Julien Stevens & Professor David Gartry who both work from Moorfields Eye Hospital & Professor Dan Reinstein from London Vision Clinic. I've chosen Julien Stevens but I think you can't go wrong with any of those three. I wouldn't compromise or penny pinch when it comes to things like this, those three are where the High Street Clinics send their patients when things go wrong!
