Don
Hi all,
I forgot this thread existed so will update you on my surgery.
It was a bit of a spontaneous decision having it done, my friend got it done and put on FB how good it was so that got me interested, I then calculated how much I'd of spent on Contacts in 10 years time and it was nearly £3k so then this really got me looking into eye laser treatment. I must admit I was quite uneducated in the whole process and costs, I thought it was much more expensive than it was, although there a lot of hidden costs (wavefront)
I booked a consultation with Optical Express, I made the foolish mistake of driving to the appointment, for those who had the eye drops in the consult will understand why. I spoke to two people there, It wasn't the most welcoming of places and I wasn't 100% comfortable with dealing with them, anyway I got the quotes, basically they wanted me to choose which surgery I had, either paying £2300 with the mechanical device cutting the flap of your eye or £2900 with the laser cutting the flap of my eye, they sold me saying with the more expensive treatment the recovery is much shorter, within a day in fact I should be seeing normal, with the cheaper, it could be up to five days of being 'uncomfortable'. I didn't want to put a premium on my eyes but I still didn't like choosing really.
After speaking to my friend she advised I get a consultation at the place she went too, Accuvision (only three surgery's in the UK, Wetherby, London and Birmingham), it's a privately owned company so they're not reliant on surviving via eye laser surgery (a reason why Ultralase a going under) so they try sell you the product but don't pressure you neither. The guy i saw was a a really nice optician, the whole place was a lot more welcoming that Optical Express and I knew then I'd be having my surgery there. I had the consult, Simon who was the optician told me what I should have done rather than me choosing and the cost would be £1800 (wavefront + mechanical device). I paid up, booked my appointment for 8th May and two weeks later I'm sitting here with 20/20 vision.
The surgery itself was probably worse than I expected, it didn't hurt but was very uncomfortable, especially when they did my left eye but it was quick and the minute I sat up I could see the difference. A night of resting my eyes and I could see perfectly the next day. I suffer a bit from dry eyes which is normal but today is the first day I haven't had to use any drops.
My eye sight was never that bad, -1.25 but I suffered from dry eyes in small environments so always had to take out my contacts and wear glasses at home, not having to do this is great. I also play football four times a week, not needing contacts for that is also brilliant.
I've wrote this very quick, so sorry for bad English!
Oh, and I really recommend Accuvision.
