Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

Hi all,

I forgot this thread existed so will update you on my surgery.

It was a bit of a spontaneous decision having it done, my friend got it done and put on FB how good it was so that got me interested, I then calculated how much I'd of spent on Contacts in 10 years time and it was nearly £3k so then this really got me looking into eye laser treatment. I must admit I was quite uneducated in the whole process and costs, I thought it was much more expensive than it was, although there a lot of hidden costs (wavefront)

I booked a consultation with Optical Express, I made the foolish mistake of driving to the appointment, for those who had the eye drops in the consult will understand why. I spoke to two people there, It wasn't the most welcoming of places and I wasn't 100% comfortable with dealing with them, anyway I got the quotes, basically they wanted me to choose which surgery I had, either paying £2300 with the mechanical device cutting the flap of your eye or £2900 with the laser cutting the flap of my eye, they sold me saying with the more expensive treatment the recovery is much shorter, within a day in fact I should be seeing normal, with the cheaper, it could be up to five days of being 'uncomfortable'. I didn't want to put a premium on my eyes but I still didn't like choosing really.

After speaking to my friend she advised I get a consultation at the place she went too, Accuvision (only three surgery's in the UK, Wetherby, London and Birmingham), it's a privately owned company so they're not reliant on surviving via eye laser surgery (a reason why Ultralase a going under) so they try sell you the product but don't pressure you neither. The guy i saw was a a really nice optician, the whole place was a lot more welcoming that Optical Express and I knew then I'd be having my surgery there. I had the consult, Simon who was the optician told me what I should have done rather than me choosing and the cost would be £1800 (wavefront + mechanical device). I paid up, booked my appointment for 8th May and two weeks later I'm sitting here with 20/20 vision.

The surgery itself was probably worse than I expected, it didn't hurt but was very uncomfortable, especially when they did my left eye but it was quick and the minute I sat up I could see the difference. A night of resting my eyes and I could see perfectly the next day. I suffer a bit from dry eyes which is normal but today is the first day I haven't had to use any drops.

My eye sight was never that bad, -1.25 but I suffered from dry eyes in small environments so always had to take out my contacts and wear glasses at home, not having to do this is great. I also play football four times a week, not needing contacts for that is also brilliant.

I've wrote this very quick, so sorry for bad English!

Oh, and I really recommend Accuvision.

I had it done january 2011 at the london vision clinic (harley street) for £4600.

Couldn't have it done anywhere else because my pupils are very large.

roughly 20/12 vision now ;D, need a checkup.

They had to sedate me as well as the usual 'chocolate and massage' because I'm very squeamish.

They did warn me about this but I forgot my sunglasses and it was a blindingly bright day! I walked out of the place and the sun hit me and I couldn't see a thing, must have looked like a right idiot walking through town having to shield my eyes from the sun! :D

I had lasek done 3 days a go, I have noticed a very slight improvemnt with my sight and today is the first day i can type at the PC without sunglasses on.

I have read a lot of people saying they had perfect vision next day, is this normal for my vision to not have much improvement after 3? I still have the protected lenses on my eyes at the minute so do you think that holds your vision back a bi?

My visions was 0.75 >>>> 1.00 is that bad?

Overall, i'm chuffed. Really impressed with the service at Optimax Nottingham.

Had Lasik with wavefront done there about 2years ago using the fixed price offer. This offer has just come on again and i am trying to get the Mrs to go for it.

£2186 over 24 months interest free. (i paid about £1800)

Your prescription isn't too bad. Before surgery mine was -9.5 & -7.5 now 40/40 thanks to LVC

I'm thinking of getting this done but looking for a rough figure that people have paid for similar prescriptions before I go for a consultation. Both eyes are -4.75 and I have no other issues with them.

Or, if they seen your pupils when indoors, incredibly high :D

Well, i wasn't going to post this as something's i prefer to keep private, but....

I had my one year checkup last Wednesday with the London Vision Clinic.

Went from over +5.5 (longsighted) in both eyes to almost nothing, (I actually cant remember the exact figure but it was high!) looking to have an enhancement done in the near future, which is covered under the initial cost.

Not the cheapest, but the usual places like Optimax and alike refused me on the basis that my prescription was too high. Even Focus Laser Vision refused me....

Cant recommend LVC enough, the service and support from them has been second to none and Prof. Dan Reinstein is a very knowledgeable guy!

Looks like my enhancement will be, all being well, around October time.....

I had it back in August last year at Optical Express, Its the best thing I've ever done.

I had the ultra lase Wavefront technology and it cost about 3000.

My eyes were extremely bloodshot and bruised for a few days after it took about 2-3 months for them to clear up 100%.

I have perfect vision now though but I wonder how long it will last?

For those who were short sighted how is your night vision especially when driving and flashing lights.

I'd like to get it done but my optician has said I'm not really suitable as I have very dry eyes already!

So driving after a consulation is a no no?

after the procedure i had to return the following day for a check up - we stayed in a hotel in Nottingham overnight.

Follow-up 1 week later, 1 month, 3 month etc
