Worrying about reparations is a luxury belief. It's the humble brag. I'm from such an old rich family I need to worry about my ancestors 400-200 years ago.
Same, I'm descended from South America, from the same logic I should be requesting reparations from the Spanish because of what the conquistadors did to my country in the 15th centuryIt obviously causes a large degree of bias on your side.
It just makes me mad. Me and my family (definitely back at least to GG grandparents) have never profited financially from slavery. Why should my families tax money then be used to pay reparations for something none of us have taken part in?
Its as good as stealing our cash.
Still waiting on my reparations for what Ze Germans did to my family, that's in living memory too. Is that how this works? Where's my monies!Same, I'm descended from South America, from the same logic I should be requesting reparations from the Spanish because of what the conquistadors did to my country in the 15th century
To whom, and for what? What’s your idea of reparations. What reparations should be made?
For example, to the ancestors of slaves, or the colonisation of India. To whom, and for what?
I have thought about it from the other side, and there is no way I would accept innocent people in a country that once subjugated mine, paying for what their ancestors did. It’s totally preposterous
I'll speak to my wife and get you an IKEA voucher. That ok?Have the Vikings (Scandinavia) paid out any reparations yet?
I sometimes wonder if this reparations conversation only happens in the English speaking world?
No chance, the victim mentality is ingrained into their very fabric of society. A few quid won’t change that. They’ll just move on to something else that they can play the race card on.I think I've actually said this before...maybe not here
If paying a few 100 million to "the blacks" lol
Would shut them up and change the attitude of all future generations and then abolish nonsense like BLM and we could all just get along and people would take each other as individuals etc blah etc.
I'd pay 500Kr for that, just stop the generational whining and victim nonsense for once. I'm not even sure those people would be able to cope having to actually contribute to a modern society.
The whole thing is ridiculous really. Honestly though, if it would actually change peoples mentality to be pitiful morons, worth it
You'd think that'd be the case, but they won't shut up, i guarantee itI think I've actually said this before...maybe not here

Thats fine we can just print more money and every black dude in the USA can buy a new TeslaActually costs might be considerably higher. One figure I read (and this might only be USA) was upto $17.1 trillion - which would work out around $425k for each black American.
"Reparations" can be required for more than the enslavement of people.
Britain is prosperous off the backs of many nations, reparations being made at an international level I am fully in agreement with.
Re: individual reparations around slavery - I think that requires a much more in-depth analysis, as there is potential for corporations who benefitted to resolve, but there are many factors involved.
For example, to the ancestors of slaves, or the colonisation of India.
The UK has done more good for the world than it has bad. To think we owe reparations to anyone is crazy.
Boo hoo we invaded some countries. People need to get over it. Doesn't help anyone, or any country move forward.
The ignorance in this thread speaks volumes.
But do you think it’s right that reparations should come from taxpayers money? As I said, with the ancestors of slaves, it is a complex and global issue. Potentially, the larger financial institutions and corporations who so heavily benefitted from the slave trade can individually look into their history for wrong-doings and compensate where/if required, however I don't know enough about that to go into any specifics.
With the exploitation of India, potential monetary reparations can actually be calculated to a degree, however exact remuneration is a ridiculous thing to ask for. I think acknowledgment and consideration of such during trade deals would be an acceptable location for compensation.
That's a contentious topic, considering they replaced it with indentured labour...In India for example the British Empire was largely responsible for abolishing slavery
