LED Bulb Thread

You changed your bulb holders too at the same time right? Checked if another bulb works?

Re-wiring no but I suppose it's possible (although probably not likely) that the equivalent power rating of your new bulbs exceeded the holder's spec. The equivalent is the wattage figure the LED is meant to be replacing e.g. 50W.

So a 50W equivalent LED bulb (5W consumption) may not work properly in a holder designed for 35W halogens.

Ok, I'll check the wattage of the old halogens. Basically they need to be 45W or lower. If not, then new holders?

It's usually more a problem for transformers or dimmers being overloaded than the holders themselves tbh.

Is yours on a standard switch? 240V or 12V?

Probably just a faulty bulb then but do check the holder with another bulb anyway before returning the LED one for replacement.

While you're waiting on the replacement, keep a halogen bulb (same equivalent wattage if possible) in its place.

Downlight holder is rated to 50W, old Halogen 50W bulb works, and all the other 4 LED bulbs work. So sounds like a dead LED bulb.

How easy is it to have it replaced from LED hut?

LED HUT Returns process sucks. The staff are so rude it's unreal. Have just spent 30 mins with them on the phone to try and return 2 dimmer switches and 10 bulbs.

In the end I spoke to a manager and got it sorted.

Oh 30% off anyone, was given this due to the delay on my order.... my30

I've had no problems. Had to get three things replaced. I just filled in the form on their site.
Just make sure you tell them you've tried the same bulb in working housing.

Can anyone spec an LED external solar powered light that actually works? i need one for the front of my house but currently dont have a power supply. Its pitch black at night and fed up of falling over the steps :D

Why haven't all street/road/motorway lights been replaced with LED bulbs? Just curious.

I have to say I dont really like them in urban enviroments.

My parents road meets the main road at a typical T junction however with a 8foot wall on the croner so you cant see 'into' the road; there is a lamppost there that has the bulbb changes from the orange sodium to the LED and everytime I approach ti turn I always think there is a car there due to the white light.

The current contrast between orange street lighting and white vehicles does help provide drivers with more information.

Last weekend I had a new fused switch wired up to replace the dubious socket-spur that was powering a dual halogen security light out the back of my house. Since I still have an unhealthy obsession with GU10's I've decided to got with some wall mounted LED GU10 spots on the rear of the house.

I've going to take the output of the fused spur into an IP66 junction box, then take that into a 'Steinel Nightmatic 3000 Photocell Sensor Black Twilight Switch' and then from there into a string of junction boxes which will daisy-chain along the length of the house with a light every 2 m or so (the width of the wall spans almost exactly 10m) This should allow me to add more around the sides at a later date.

this was my shopping list:

smart photocell: http://goo.gl/bAKQs7
8* wiska junction boxes: http://goo.gl/pyTHoF (aswell as one slightly larger one )
5* cool white fixed GU10's: http://goo.gl/xdROj2
5*outdoor GU10 enclosures: http://goo.gl/JZIB53 (not going to win any style awards here mind!
25m of rubber pond flex: http://goo.gl/7plaeA (okay, didn't realise there was .75mm and 1.5mm - still find toolstation's website a nightmare, don't actually know which one I have, but either will do)

I've go more lighting projects to finish in thehouse before I start on this, but hopefully can make a start at the weekend; if not I'll have to do it on the mornings before work.

If anyone has any suggestions before I embark on this shout up! I know it's not going to be the most discrete of installs, but there's already black conduit running around the house from before I bought it off some earth-bonding that needed doing
