LG 42-inch OLED

What the hell!? How can I the justify this price for a 42 inch TV!? Yea I get that it's how many panels they get out of a sheet but it's still only a 42 inch TV. I expected a grand or 1.2k at the absolute most but almost 1.5k is ludicrous.

If this truly is the price then I'm out.

It's determined by the opportunity cost, as I mentioned. If you can get the same number of 42 and 48 inch panels from one sheet then they have to cost the same price, if you can get more 48 inch than 55 inch then the 48 can be cheaper but only enough that the overall margin from the sheet is no different. One sheet can make two 75 inch OLEDs and each size under that added together needs to make the same margin as the two 75s

This is why as you make the screen smaller and smaller the amount of cost savings gets smaller and smaller to the point where you can't reduce cost anymore and that's where we are now, LG is telling us that it's not economical to make anything under 48 inch with their current technology so if you want anything under 48 you will pay a premium for it

I was disappointed he did not make some kind of joke about the price :p

I am not surprised by the price personally. It will come down slowly as usual.

Am more surprised he didn't mention that 6 inches doesn't make a difference, it was there for the taking all night long.....

You get 8 48 inch screens from a mother sheet and 10 42 inch screens.

He will absolutely be getting one I expect. One of the more popular reviewers that does in-depth review and getting invited to LGs office to have look, would be a shock if he did not along with other sizes / models for review.

Yeah for sure. But if one can wait I am almost certain within 12 months it will come down to a three figure sum unless demand remains crazy high.

Yeah will definitely come down but I don't think it will as much as the 48 did this year. I think lowest it will go is around 1000 if the launch price of 1400 is accurate. Similar to how the 48 reduced in the first year.

You could be right. Time will tell I suppose.

42" OLED is probably nearly the perfect tv. Yes, it's still a bit on the huge size but still better than 48". 48" already looks damn sharp but 42"? Imagine that!

should be packing more pixels per inch so yeah sharper and clearer text, hopefully with rest of picture also.

They have LG 55" CX TVs going for £900 on hotuk deals the other day, but appears 980 price tag now. These TVs had a manufacturer build date of 3 months ago so it appears LG is still shifting them without issue.

I think LG can do much better with these OLED prices really but its supply and demand for now.

120 hz and Most likely the same BS VRR flicker, hence no HW for driving different hz etc!

Alienware 34 QDOLED says hello for the same price with: QuantumDots and perfect RGB pixels + 175 hz + the icing on the cake and on of the Most Important aspects: g-sync module - real HW to drive it all. Tell me the AW wont eat this POS for breakfast ;)

Love my CX55. But wouldent touch this extreme overpriced Tv, thats most Likely aint have anything new over the CX/C1 - besides the size!

Also no good for console players due to it being UW so not an option for those of us that threw in the towel on PC gaming over the last couple of years
Also no good for those who still likes to play old gamers or certain games that doesn't support UW.
And I also don't like UW anyway, wether be it for games or office use, I just don't like it and a big time PC user here.
