LG 42-inch OLED

What's ALB like on this? I'm tempted to go for one of these after returning the philips evnia 42m2n8900 which uses the same panel.

Depends if its for monitor use, its going to be a tad tricky you may just wish to switch off tpc and gsr in the service menu. For films and tv series its decent but as with anything its not perfect some scenes it goes dark and doesn't come back, other scenes it can struggle usually its on TV series like silo, house of dragons but again you could just switch it off completely and enjoy whatever you are doing, monitor, gaming and tv series etc

The C3 its sort of fixed but at the same time you can't fully switch it off so you are relying much on LGs algorithm but I hear its great and less issue during Tv series for now, not sure about desktop pc use but perhaps better.

Quite a few feel that type of fix may roll over to the C2 series but again its a big worry especially to people who need and prefer the option to put it on or off (for tv calibration etc)

Has anyone got Metro Exodus and can test something for me? Enable HDR per normal in Windows, open the game and the HDR option is now in the menu, but the TV isn't popping up with the little icon to say it's in HDR. Also, and I don't know if this was ever the case but after enabling HDR on the desktop, when I press green x7 it isn't saying it's in HDR there either, or does RGB 10B 4L2 mean it is, because if I turn Win HDR off it goes to 8b 4L12. I'm sure it used to explicitly say HDR.

Green info menu never said HDR, it always gave technical info i.e. resolution and bit depth.

If you set Windows to HDR I imagine the HDR popup comes up when you turn the PC on, not when you open the game.

8bit is SDR, 10bit is HDR so it sounds like it all working :)

I dont have metro installed but I have found HDR in windows sometimes disables itself, I usually just use Win+Alt+B to switch it on. You can also just click the scroll on the remote and click the input in the top right to see if it's working, HDMI 1 etc.

Thanks, turns out it;s just not well implemented, weird as I'm sure it was on PS5.

So dilemma dilemma here .

I really wanted to game at full 4k and Im seriously considering this model , can only find it at £979 now ! Any cheaper suggestions would be appreciated.

If you guys were buying now would you have this model or go ultra wide with Alienware AW3423DWF at £789 ?

I have the desktop space and a 7900xtx to power it .

I've had a 34 inch 3440x1440 and a 38 inch 3840x1600, both IPS panels, so no QD-OLED, but my housemate has a Alienware 34 inch QD-OLED, and i would still choose the LG C2 42 over everything

I love Ultrawides but the 42 inch 16:9 is just slightly wider than a 38 inch but you get the extra height which massively helps, and the HDR and all the OLED quality between the alienware and the LG isn't hugely noticeable in the long run unless you are the select few that can tell the differences between the two.

And once you use a quality HDMI cable and the LGTV Companion app, you're pretty much sorted, there's a few people on youtube who can give you the tweaks and settings to get the HDR and SDR to look correct using a PC/Xbox/Playstation and you're sorted.

Just take some extra care with using it so you can prolong the life before burn in gets to noticeable, which would take years of regular use anyway but always best to be cautious

For running games in Ultrawide 3840x1600 I found you can set the display menu to 21:9, set Nvidia control panel to have custom resolutions for 3840X1600 120Hz, set Nvidia Desktop size and position and select No scaling. You can now set the Windows resolution to 3840X2160 and gaming set full screen and 3840X1600, I find this works for most games but not all, and racing etc look great.

Anyone used both the 42 and 48 c2's? or older lg oled in those sizes? any thoughts?

Bought a 42" c2 back in may for new build I just completed. PC all black, and openned the c2 after it's been sitting there and they sent me the white one. Just rang them and they don't have any left, but more than happy to take it back for a refund. They've got 1 48" c2 left in the dark silver for £40 more on offer. Thinking about getting that but 48" getting a bit large. Just using a ikea desk 160x80cm...used to dual 43" screens at work for work, but still unsure about 48". also stand not on the little legs where can feed cables under for keyboard etc...

so my option
1) keep existing 42" C2 even though wrong colour
2) send back, pay bit more and get the 48" and live with bigger setup, though screen res be down a bit
3) send back, start search again, knowing going to have to pay a lot more as got c2 at good price

any help on anyone using both 48 and 42 versions recently will be helpful. thanks

I use the 48" oled with a generic third party TV stand. I have a similar small desk but it works for me. I'm not working on it but for web and normal desktop stuff I find myself not using one maximised window and often splitting multiple windows around.

Since the 42in C2 is pretty much out of rotation now, has anyone had any desktop experience with the replacement C3 model? Sounds like you can't turn off some of the aggressive screen protections like you could with the C2 and just wondered how that was for owners.

Not surprised its hard to get the C2, the price discounts were pretty aggressive around boxing day, John lewis then did a special offer and further dropped the price a few weeks later. Don't know if this is the norm or if I was just lucky last year.

Yeah they went in for a heavy discount at first but since then it's been priced pretty high.

Hopefully the new model will get a similar discount this black Friday but then maybe they underestimated the demand the first time.
