LG 42-inch OLED

Hi guys new here I’m pretty clued up with technology and gaming.

I had my C2 42” delivered by RS 2 days ago

Unfortunately I’ve had to get a replacement as mine keeps ‘no signaling’ all the time on my Xbox tired different hdmi cables same issue. so went downstairs and plugged it back into my C1 48” which I’ve been gaming on for 9 months no such issue arises. which tells me it’s the tv. Hopefully you guys don’t get such bad luck like myself

I guess its up to LG to now propose what the state of play is, as you may get a proportion of people buying the panel who are not enthusiast or looking to use it as a gaming monitor however if people are sharing how to spot issues and its deemed misleading advertising I wonder what the vendors are doing? Unless this is quite common with displays/TV's.

Its very common in the TV enthusiast forums like AVforums and AVS, I believe they call it the Panel Lottery.

And yes im sure there will be people buying, testing and packing it back up trying to get the better panels or Evo panels.

Yep fingers crossed this one will be better or I will be devastated lol. Really don’t want to go trough exchange again and RS probably wouldn’t be very happy either as so far they’ve been very nice to me.

Fingers crossed, at least its not like the 48" panel where you feel like the panel could crack when you go to pick it up or move it out the box :p

This 42" felt almost half the weight when I went to lift it up.

Yea this one weighs next to nothing. When I was removing the screen protector both pull tabs came off without pulling the film so I had to get under the protective film with my finger nail very gently.
As I was doing that the corner of the display was slightly flexing within the frame as if it was made out of plastic and not glass. Weird.
The 55” BX that I got in my bedroom I was hanging that up myself as was too impatient to wait for help.
I had to use steps to hang that up on a wall so it was a bit of struggle as it weighs way more than this 42”.

Early thoughts on the 42C2 are, its the best picture quality I have seen on any TV, very pin sharp and detailed.

Straight away I noticed few difference though compared to my OLED CX from 2020, LG put the hdmi ports now on the left hand side rather then right hand side like on the CX, this is a pitta since my daily 4K monitor and wall is on the left, its not going to be easy to swap cables but guess you only do it rarely.

Also all 4 hdmi and other ports are on the left, so no nasty hdmi or optical ports on the back like the 48cx, what a fiddly nightmare that was. I do miss the universal entry on the optical port on the CX though, the C2 optical input has to be put in the correct way, again nothing really to fuss over.

The 42C2 has better reflective coating then my 48CX, Can barely see myself or lights on the 42C2 on the 48CX it was practically a disgusting mirror of myself.

Menus appear more simpler and easier but pretty much the same, can't see the option to switch off the red front LED light though but will keep looking.

I did do the Full white screen Youtube test with Filmmaker mode and I don't know what I have, if I look at an angle on the left its a very slight pink on the right hand side of the screen but if I go on the right hand side and see it at an angle its a blue tint.

So I have a blue tint on one side and a pink tint on the other side perhaps LG made sure I got an Semi-Evo panel:cry:

Yeah had to use my nail also, I went to do it gently but the red tape ripped and I was doing it slowly. Yeah the bottom half of mine its a bit flimsy and plasticy on my CX it felt like solid glass I think, its a minor thing not going to be touching it.

There are sadly some people on AVf getting faulty C2s, I was hoping LG put a bit more focus on QC but guess like with anything you will get bad ones, I might test the black levels after a week or 2 and the whites.

@R3X don’t know if you can disable the red standby led but you can change it to white if you enable “always ready” where you can even power it on with your voice as it’s always listening.

For this new gen they have also moved to using composite materials, so in addition to the size bit, they do weigh less in general, 30% or so on some models year on year. 77C2 this year dropped down to 21kg vs 27kg for last year. Including stands, difference is even bigger.

cheers yeah saw that feature, saw a warning about it using more power nice touch by LG considering everything going up, ill check it later but for now ill just stick on some white tack to hide it.

Ah yes so they cutting costs and upping prices. Makes sense….

Glad they cut the weight, holding that 48" CX on my own and placing it in the wall mount grooves, I could hear some creaking from the sides, what a sweat haha

No idea how you did the 55" on your own.

Has there been any updates on an easy way to tell between the old WBC and the new WBE panels in the 42" C2?

Also I've noticed people talking about the 42" not having 120hz bfi... is this a big deal? I didn't realise this was necessary on OLEDs, and I will be only ever using this tv at 120hz.

Apparently WBE have pink shift at an angle but I’m not very convinced it is a reliable way of telling which is which.
And no there is no BFI at 120hz but to me it was never a useable feature as you loose too much brightness and let’s be honest they are not the brightest screens already without it.

I looked to see if the screen supported 120hz bfi, although disappointing, its not a deal breaker for myself. I really liked it on my friends, but that was 10 minute test/show off. I'm running a c9 which I'm very happy with, so extra features are a consideration. I game sdr at 25 oled brightness, so I think I could use it in sdr gaming.

I hope this one would last you more than year!:) Every oled has the same gloss to them and they have good anti reflective coating. But C1 & G1 models had a pink tint bug last year so it seems they didn't fix it for C2;) Red tint have been found here https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/lg-42-inch-oled.18945242/page-37#post-35529569

Is it a bug?
The only way to know (it seems) whether you got a new panel in your C2, or an old panel from a few years ago, is the new better panels have a pink tint when seen from certain angles. So the pink must be inherant somehow, either as part of one of the coatings or due to some refractive property.
