LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

No way would I want curved for desktop use.

If it was 100"+ sitting 15 feet or so away for TV and Movies then I could may be see the appeal but even then why curve it if you can see all the screen in front of you without turning your head.

You would if you used it.

You're forgetting that the monitor is so wide that the ends look slightly distorted with the way our eyes work. The slight curve fixes that.

What if you wanted to wall mount it?
I would find that it would look slightly odd wall mounted as its always best for it to be flush against the wall.

While I do like curved displays for large screen TV's for a desktop monitor I still think id prefere straight.
I can imagine the upside though is you wont see the ips glow at the sides like you would on the flat model as the sides are curved in so there more level with your eyes.

SInce I fixed mine though I don't really see ips glow at the sides anymore. Maybe a little when its pitch black but I rarely sit at my computer in the dark.

Had word back from the German store, they've received the original 95 back and will process it for repair again with LG. The note states that the remote control was not included... lol?

If your eyes make the UM95 look distorted then you have busted eyes :p

You know what I mean, it is definitely more natural. Don't make me draw graphics to illustrate it, the distorted perspective will exist. :p

You guys are seriously overestimating how curved this thing is. It's only a tiny, tiny curve which will have more benefits than drawbacks.

I am so tempted by this 34UM95-P. I have the Dell U3014 at the mo and it's great but the look of this super widescreen is something else. I have had 0 problems with the U3014 and the backlight bleed problems worry me with the LG. Am I just being a bit silly even thinking about changing the Dell for the LG? Primary use is for gaming on a 780ti

Not at all. I use mine mainly for games and for some music creation work and its great for both. Ill never go back to 16:9 to be honest. You have a good card for it as its not as hard on the system as 4k but I think personally the ultrawide aspect ratio is much more striking than a 4k screen.

Regarding bleed, Aslong as theres none along the top or sides you can fix it yourself. My first one had very little bleed, my second was very bad and my third had some in the bottom corners but by unclipping the bezel it looks perfect pretty much now.
I also don't see the big deal with things like Gsync as I run every game on this with vsync on so capped at 60 and its very smooth especially in games like assetto corsa where you notice the motion more and things like tearing.

Wait until Dell comes out with their version.

Watching the 35 minute witcher 3 demo with no compression and it looks stunning. I can't imagine how awesome that's going to look on this screen.

Add me to the list that a curved display sounds like a horrible idea. You would be sitting just too close to the monitor, the effect of the curve would get on my nerves and make me wonder why I have gone down this road... why.

PBP feature seems to work quite well but how the f do I set the PC half to scale the full dimension? When I change the resolution in Windows to say 1280x1024 or any other 5:4 resolution it's just a square in the middle of the screen!

I've played with the PBP "Ratio" setting but can't seem to suss it. I'll probably never use PBP again, just flick between sources ¬_¬

Edit*
Ah I think I need to set up a custom resolution that is the size native to half the display...

Thing is this is already at the top of my budget. I cant imagine the Dell model being this side of £900. My current screen still retails at £800, £1,334.40 if you buy from Dell direct!!

The Dell will not be much more expensive than the LG if at all, otherwise they would lose out to LG (and AOC) in the market. If anything, it should be cheaper considering it is unlikely to have hardware calibration.

Want to bet :)
I think it's a given the Dell will be the most expensive. Not by a massive chunk, but a chunk nonetheless.
As a dell user I think the little extra is worth it. I'm still holding out to see what's coming monitor wise. It's getting harder every day - have you seen the LG 21:9 curved curveball in the other thread???)

Yep, I did.

I also still don't think it will be. It isn't like there are a lot of of 34" 21:9 panels in the market. Dell would be shooting themselves in the foot pricing it high above the LG.

Also again the people who think it is horrible, two things:

1) Owned the 34" panel? Know how WIDE it is?
2) You're overestimating the curve. It is only a curve of what looks like a few degrees to bring the extreme edges into a better perspective for our eyes. Don't freak out over it!
