London pollution & ULEZ

All for ULEZ, so long as there’s a reasonable heads up before implementation for people to change their vehicles.

Not sure how much of a warning they’ve had for the expansion mind.
I think there's been quite a lot of warning and this high court action was a last ditch attempt by some local authorities to stop it.

We've got a CAZ in Newcastle now and there has been months and months of warnings prior to additional vehicles being added to the list of needing to be compliant.

I just had a look at the map showing the expansion and it's actually more significant than I realised. For those saying it's about money and profit, I give you exhibit A below. Absolutely no need to have that slither coming out specifically to capture Chessington. Now why would they do that? Oh wait.... loads of people drive to Chessington World of Adventures theme park from far away. Yes please ££££

I dunno why they'd do that, gosh I wonder where the Mayor of London has influence over... hmm... Where might that end?

If, by their own admission, a minority of cars that is seen on the average day will be affected by this change. Then surely it is a change that will not have a significant impact on Air Quality and emissions. Since they are targetting the minority according to their own reports.

That would obviously be determined by what % of pollutants the older minority of cars contributed, yes?

A quick Google came up with some stats from the previous ULEZ zone

Polluting vehicles account for around half of London’s harmful NOx air emission

Also be careful stepping out the door in Romford, and accidentally dropping litter, you will have a gang of enforcement officers hiding around the corner and handing you a nice £150 fine.
Don't see the problem with that. Littering is an extremely nasty habit and most people aren't doing it accidentally.

Chessington is in the London borough of Kingston, is it not?

London voted for him so perhaps they did.

Speak to any Londoner and you find they didn't.
The court deem it lawful but that just one person decision really.
We all know they judicial system favours the powerful and there is no judicial system for the rest.

Anyone who drops litter should be fined. It's a lazy, disgusting act.

Yep, its one of those things that is just endemic of people who don't give a **** about their local area and its a very strong indicator that you are a scumbag of a human if you intentionally do it.

Its depressing walking around my local area and not being able to walk more than a few metres without seeing litter. You don't notice much of it but if you actually look for it you realise that its everywhere.

Going off topic here, I was talking about the recent fine where they ganged up on an old lady, literally hiding behind a tree waiting for her to drop something, think It was small piece of paper or a cigarette end. Like go after the people dropping takeaway rubbish and throwing rubbish out their parked up cars.

Go after everyone dropping rubbish, old lady included.

happens everywhere and not just to little old ladies.
Watched it happen at a service station, biker put his rubbish next to an overflowing bin, he got followed and pulled over afterwards and I suspect a lovely fine.

Sorry, I will correct the post, my bad (I was thinking of number from a different survey and didn't look closely). Either way, your "no one wants" is complete wrong, isn't it?

Yes, very slightly more people who have no experience of ULEZ think it will be bad, whilst those who have experienced it know it is good. As for being unaffected, the air quality across London is impacted by more polluting vehicles in outer London.

But we are moving towards electric cars, electric cars don't pollute instantly. So really there is no reason.

Something I think needs stressing is that this isn't a ban on non-compliant cars. It's just a charge.
It's not so different in that regard from the changes in tax laws we've seen in the past to incentivise certain types of car, just that this time it is usage based rather than a blanket charge.
Yes, if you frequently with a non-compliant vehicle in those areas it would be expensive so perhaps if I had a 10 year old dodgy diesel I would be annoyed, but generally someone always loses out with 'tax' changes.

If they are driving from far away in a non-compliant vehicle then presumably they are generating a lot of pollution.
Also, if you look at this monitoring site (the closest I can find to Chessington), PM2.5/NOS emissions are frequently exceeding UK/WHO guidelines: https://www.breathelondon.org/sensor-info?sitecode=CLDP0089&species=both , so it seems air quality needs to be tackled in that area.

I love how people think putting their rubbish next to an overflowing bin is an acceptable way to dispose of their rubbish. Why not just take it with you if it doesn't fit in the bin?!
