Am I right in assuming the UK has seen episode 14 then? But its only thursday
The candidates can kill eachother, but not themselves.
Locke (or the Man in Black - MIB) can't kill the candidates directly. He also can not be killed by anyone. He needs all the candidates dead to be able to leave the island.
Here's where this theory doesn't quite work for me. Before MIB/smoke becomes Locke he tries to kill various candidates multiple times. Hell, in last episode of series one smoke actually tries to kill candidate number 4 - Locke himself, but somehow manage to loose the duel to an arm grip of good doctor who saves Locke from being minced while being dragged into a pit too small for size of his body.
But of course, back then, we know smoke to be just a guarding mechanism, or security system as Danielle Rousseau describes it, and not very clever one at that, since most of the time you can escape it by hiding in a "cage" between bamboo trees. On the other hand, we also know most of Danielle's original story was overwritten by later script writers in hope no one will notice it doesn't make sense. For example, throughout most of season one Danielle repeatedly says she has never ever seen another people on the island except her crew, all of which is completely changed in later seasons.
Precisely - she said at least three times how all her crew died, twice that one day she saw the smoke rising above the jungle and "The Others" took her baby. The first episode we see her (episode 9 of series 1 was it?) she says to Sayid that she had never seen any other people on the island, but has only heard them whisper. That'd be - for roughly 16 years of setting traps and living day to day life on the island. Her character maintains that line - that voices and The Others are one and the same - until the end of season 1, when she kidnaps Aaron in hope to exchange it with The Others for Alex, because "the voices" told her to do it.Im sure Danielle mentioned the others repeatedly in the first season, them being the ones that took her baby n all.
Perhaps the losties weren't officially 'candidates' until Jacobs demise, even though he had wrote their names down, perhaps a pre-selection process?
I would like to know what Sayid's true significance was? In the begining of the series, Jacob told Hurley and the Others that he had to survive, or everyone would die. But in the end, all that happened was Sayid joined the dark side, and the situation that occured on the submarine may have never even happened if it weren't for Sayid doing all the MIB's errands.
Mass cast extinction
Great episode, looking forward to the finale.
Indeed, now that its been extended as well can only be a good sign![]()
Next weeks episode should be fantastic, actually might answer some long standing mysteries.
We're going around in circles. I've made my views clear and my attitude won't change. If I am in the wrong then I am sure I'll be dealt with as the Mods see fit.
It's a shame because posters like you get endless threads closed as you can't follow the most basic rules. Your opinions won't change, no problem. I can/will and do report anyone I see posting anything construed as discussion ahead of UK air dates.
For the record, I watch TV shows ahead of UK air times and although it frustrates me I have to wait to discuss them here I also have the most simple of character traits...I can read and respect rules![]()
I think Sayid had to live in order to die saving Jack (whom we assume to be the prime candidate after what Sayid said to him before blowing himself up).
That's why Jacob said he was so important...
Quite an interesting episode, wasn't expecting the killing off of some long standing characters. I've never been too fussed about Jin and Sun though, it was a pretty 'meh' end to two pretty 'meh' characters. I was more concerned about Syaid.
