LOTRO free to play going ahead.

What exactly does roleplay involve in the game? ive never tried it

It simply involves playing the game as if you are the character, so with your characters persona whether thats a jovial joking kind of person , or a miserable git, or someone whoever hates dwarfs or elves or has a fear of spiders or whatever. Basically whatever your imagination comes up with (though I understand use of imagination is an increasingly rare commodity in this world of spoon feeding :) )

There are many different levels of Rp from light (who generally allow lots of ooc and metagaming) to hardcore Rp (who rarely go ooc and sometimes impose their own restrictions on their characters ( like one of my characters in UO who distrusted magic and never used anything magical in 4 years of play)

As I say though you don't have to Rp on the Rp server , just be sensible and tolerant of those who might be.

Just started playing this on the F2P, contemplating subbing now. How much does it cost a month? Any reason to buy MoM before I'm nearing 60? (At L16 atm)

Who on the Laurelin server do I message about joining the kin?

I'm on lifetime so its been a little while since I payed monthly but iirc its something like 8.99 a month. Used to be that you would get MoM if you wanted the warden or runekeeper class but that has probably changed now. MoM is good from mid-late 40s and upwards.

Do they still offer the lifetime?

It's still available but its at the full price of 150 quid at the moment. Every so often they do promotions like the last one during the summer where it was 75 quid.

edit: oh wait no, in fact lifetimes have stopped now, I hadn't even noticed. I wouldn't be surprised if they did an offer for them at some point , like on their next anniversary or something.

You get two more classes with Moria expansion that you'll be able to try now, but I would wait until you've played the game for longer before deciding to spend money.

The game is a pretty old style for content delivery, with grind in everything. So see if you still like it after a month of play. By which time retail stock of Moria might be going for even more peanuts than I paid.

Edit: Sleepery: Is that using DirectX 11 for screen shots? It's only really the sky and background that looks decent. The tree's and near ground don't stand up to proper inspection (looks like Eregion to me, but still new to the game)

Though what little grind there is , is constantly being reduced and is now at a point where there isnt a great deal of grind left in LOTRO compared to EQ etc. Its crazily easy to level up in LOTRO now.

Very true, decided to start a new alt to see the changes in the early areas and pick up a few easy turbine points. Went with a hobbit hunter as they are so easy to play and have dinged 25 in no time with not even coming close to losing all morale in battle and the only grinding I've done is by choice for deeds.

I purchased the expansion 'Mines of Moria' from Play for my Lad as it would enable him to play RK.

what a nightmare !
There is no way to upgrade a F2P account with any expansion as Code masters have failed to implement an 'UPGRADE' button, so trying to add the product key results is an error.

Also it seems that some of the content of the discs will be dropped. Anyway you look at it, then they should recall all the discs from sale and make them digital download only if they want to pull this kind of stunt.

Moria is ace, I'd recommend it for when you get to 42 or so as the XP you can get in Moria seems very high compared to traditional zones, or perhaps it's simply that you can turn in quests faster, there's also some nice instanced quests in Doven View for legendary weapon XP in the mid 40s.

Im on Laurelin as its the one I have read as recomended in this thread! How do you go about finding:

a: One of your mates whos signed up as well?
b: Any of you guys lol!

IS there a friends system so that you can join eachothers games like on steam? I have never played an mmo before so completely new to the concept.

A - type in /tell theirname where are you? , then go meet up with them :)

B- press O to open the social tab, type in undying in the filter field, send a tell to anyone of the list who is in the ocuk guild old council of the undying kings , then go meet up with them :)

You don't have your own games , you're just all in the one big world together , once you know someone's name you can add them as a friend and it tells you when they are online, then if you want to meet up its up to you to run and find each other.

Nah you appear where you logged out, there's a bit of organisation involved if you want to get together , although some classes get abilities at higher levels which help , like the captains ability to summon people to him and the guardians ability to give you an item that allows you to summon them to you.

Yes, assuming that you don't buy (with cash or points) any extra quest packs , you will effectively run out of quests in the low-mid 20s.

Thanks for the info! Have subbed for a month

If I don't play it much, it's only 9 quid and I think I've lost that much in spare change this week :p

Who do I contact about joining the OCUK kin?

Don't forget that while your subscribed you will also be getting 500pts per month, which is handy for spending.

Not sure I'm afraid, I'm not in it :)

It did say somewhere in the thread but I didn't really pay much attention to it.
