LOTRO free to play going ahead.

That's just the Moria effect :) The damn place goes on forever, and you just feel like you're never going to get out. I have 3 characters in the early 50's now because I just couldn't take any more Moria and levelled an alt.

Two of my toons are 55 and the Lorien stuff was still red to me if I remember correctly. I might switch back to minstrel for a bit and see if I can push it to 56 to see if they go orange.

LOTRO is a lot more demanding, I managed WoW just fine on an 5 year old dell notebook, but lotro brought it to its knees with everything on low.

You could give it a try, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.

I found tailoring one of the easier ones to level actually. Hides just build up without even having to try, since half the stuff you kill drops them, whereas with the other professions you have to go out harvesting nodes.

If you wear med or light armour, you can craft better than quest rewards before you hit level 10, and it remains consistently better than other available armours right through the game.

Plus you get cloaks, captain armaments and banners and cosmetic stuff, which can be a real money maker if you manage to pick up a rare cosmetic recipe.

I think myself and Amdeal are the only ones over 50 playing regularly, and I haven't been on all week because of exams. We had a load of joiners when the f2p went live, but I'm not sure how many are going to stick around.

Crafting is very definitely worthwhile, right from the start. If you put any effort into it at all you can be crafting armour that's superior to what you'd get from quests at any given level.

Scholar is the only profession that's slow to get going, but it has a lot of useful stuff later on - potions, dyes, weapon oil for hunters and wardens. Jewellers can also craft runekeeper stones and edellharn (sp?) tokens, which reduce your dread after a death.

As is the new mini-dungeon they put in when they revamped the zone a few months back. It's easy to miss, but there's an entrance in ost cyrin and to the right of the road as you head towards ost guruth.
